I've been checking this author and his art just comes off as very different from the usual hentai artists I know. It looks to me like in pic related (just an example, most of his pics are similar) was made by rendering the tits in some 3d program and then drawing the rest of her body.

idk about rendering since there’s really no right or wrong, but it’s good to practice coloring traditionally. digital lets you colorpick, adjust colors and use filters which can make you depend on them if you don’t know how to do it without them. knowing color harmony and color mixing and being able to apply it traditionally can speed up your digital process a lot as well since you’ll be more confident

Digital and traditional painting are different beasts. While some knowledge is obviously shared between them both, if you mainly want to learn to do digital painting you should focus on learning digital. Learning to paint traditionally requires learning about how pigments work, and how to mix them correctly, and a lot of mechanical processes depending on what type of paint you're using that can't be applied to digital painting.

Hi anons, i have a question about brushes when it comes to environments. I work methodical and first start out blocking major and medium shapes with a solid hard brush, I spend quiet some time in this phase. The result of this phase feels really plastic, because all edges are so hard and even the slightest bump in a shape makes it messy looking especially with geometric shapes. Every shape has no texture whatsoever in it and it takes quiet a lot of time to get this in at a later phase. It also becomes really hard to incorporate other brushes after this, as they all feel out of place in the piece.

So to counter this I have tried to do the block-in phase with a textured brushes, but the problem I then have is that it looks even messier. Instead of "plastic" it looks like a street crayon drawing a child made.

So my question is, how and with what brush(es) can i get my first block-in of shapes to not feel plastic, while at the same time functioning as a solid foundation without an awful street-crayon feeling. Am i using textured brushes wrongly in the block-in? Any tips/elaboration/commentary is strongly appreciated, as I am really struggling with this at the moment.

>> No.4036160

what's the minimum required specs to make decently sized digital art?

>> No.4036337

>>4036160
I dunno about "minimum" because an ancient XP machine with enough RAM will get the job done agonizingly slowly, but assuming you mean 2d, a Ryzen 3 system would more than handle it and is dirt cheap right now.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 ~$55
8 GB RAM
500 GB SSD
a 2GB Video Card
and a 500W PSU
and a cheap case
The whole build would be under $300 and probably extremely satisfactory for your use case.

I don't know, hard to say without seeing how it looks exactly, I'd say you can block in with a large brush that's textured, but isn't too fancy, like in the cone example here. Or just bring textured brushes after the block in, like with the sphere. If it feels out of place, maybe it's just when you start introducing them, so they clash with the clean shapes that are there.

And everything else from FZD on the topic of thumbnails.

The Skillful Huntsman explains the concept and its pretty good (easily accessible online)

John Park have few courses some anon upploaded to mega about mech and vech design.
In each he goes from a thumbnail to a complete mech/vech/your moms dildo.

He tells how he make few height lines and tries his design with different heights and if you cant come up with good thumbnail you can try few shapes like square, triangle, circle and X and make each of those shapes different size for example small circle, medium triangle, large square, my balls even larger, your ma an undisputed champion and then try and connect those shapes in different ways.

Also, experiment with different leg construction and point of origin and basically shit like this.

It will be easier to just DL the course and see for yourself, I think those are pretty good.

It's not a digital only thing. You have to practice drawing long confident strokes to fight against the instinct to chicken scratch and to gain stability in your strokes. It's good to spend a few hours, maybe tens of hours, just practicing drawing straight lines and ellipses, but don't overdo it. You just want to get to the point where you don't reflexively chicken scratch, and then you'll just naturally practice this skill as you practice other stuff.
Secondly, the reason chicken scratching comes naturally to you is because you aren't trained to think ahead about what the line is supposed to achieve in the greater context. It's this general idea of working big first, then narrowing it down to details, and it's not at all exclusive to lines. You apply the skill in drawing like Kohr does, thinking through the major shapes first, then working down to smaller shapes. If you want to train that perceptive "big picture" skill, force yourself to take a step back from the canvas/zoom out every 10 seconds or so just to take a moment to quickly scan your entire drawing.

I'm assuming it would be a simple drawing I or life drawing I. If it were the first option, then it would probably be something about understanding first, form, through geometric shapes, by utilizing inanimate objects. A little bit of value study; maybe you'll use some charcoal and ink wash along the way.

If it were a life drawing I course, then you'll start off with understanding the human body in simple forms, create studies of masters work, learn how to apply values, and obviously, work from models.

An unfortunate side effect of anonymity is that it becomes impossible to form any kind of consensus because no one knows what other people know.
Without doubt 4chan is full of groups and pairs of strangers who've been arguing about the same topic together without realizing for years.

Imagine.
There's one anon who prefers tool x, and one who prefers y. They both post daily and when they see each others' posts often they think there's an army of idiots who prefer the other tool over another. They've both been here for eight years.
One week they both decide to try the other tool, they fall in love with it and because they're such maniac fanatics they start arguing for their new favorite starting their posts with "I used to think x was superior to y but then..."

You get the point. If you find the same conversation posted again and again, it's probably the same people too. It would do this site good if people assumed others weren't strawmen without knowledge or experience.

If you really want a cheap fix for your clean stuff lacking soul in the meantime, stop drawing over your sketch in another layer and just clean up your sketch layer into a lineart layer. It doesn’t solve the underlying issues that will probably continue to make shit difficult, but it helps things feel less stiff.

Maybe. You can try Strathmore or Hahnemuhle mixed media boards, or bristol boards. What exactly do you mean by unprofessional? If you want them to look clean like a digital painting, you'll have to resort to tricks like making an underdrawing with white pencil, or using talcum powder. Colored pencils have their limitations in terms of how the finished product looks, they have a certain style that you can't really get rid of. You can try pastel pencils, they have no limitations. Stabilo and Caran D'Ache are the best brands. Another option is PanPastels, or just regular pastels powdered and applied with an applicator. But you said you were poor. None of these options are cheap, Copics would be cheaper, and digital would be even chaper. Or just learn watercolors/gouache, it's not that hard. Or, as I said before, use watercolor pencils, you just draw with them like with normal pencils, and then apply water with a brush (or waterbrush) to make them look like watercolor or blend them like watercolors.

I’m a beginner and I’ve been progressing quite well but I tend to use any old notebooks and pencils I can find that are usually in bad condition.

I’ll go for shopping. Can anyone recommend me everything I need to improve my sketching? What type of pencils and sketchbooks should I get?

My idea was to stick with the basics with just a pencil and a sketchbook and not complicate things as a newbie. But I often watch tutorials on YT, and they always end up using some special shit like for example another pencil that smudges lines and makes shading look smoother or a different pencil that draws thinner or thicker lines. So, I need to know everything I’ll ever need.

ive been dancing around buying an ipad pro + apple pencil but my worries are that would be difficult to adapt to, and i dont know whether to buy the apple pencil 2 (that doesnt work on older versions beyond ipad 11) or the apple pencil gen 1. the gen2 apple pencil is more portable because its magnetic to ipad to charge, while for the gen 1, i could buy another wire for the gen1 because the only way to charge the gen1 is so horribly designed. the pros would be that itd be easier for me to draw everyday because i spend tremendous hours at work and i find some hours where i have nothing to do that i couldve spent on drawing. by the time i come home im too tired to even work on any art. i know theres sketching and all, but id like to paint traditionally or digitally and its not like i could bring my whole setup to work. the only con is that the ipad costs a shit ton of fucking money and apple often makes it so that future and probably better products are inaccessible to older models. so tldr this is what im asking:

1. is it hard to adapt to the ipad if im already used to drawing digitally?
2. is it worth it to spend the few hundred more to buy the apple pencil 2 + ipad pro 11, or should i settle for the older version (which is of course, cheaper)

I've personally never used an iPad or Apple pencil but I am a mobilefag on a Galaxy Note 9

Are you choosing the iPad Pro + Apple Pencil because of preference or work requirements?

Otherwise, the Galaxy A (The version with a stylus) is about $100 cheaper plus you can change the tips on the stylus as needed, even to grippier ones if you like that. And, if its anything like the Note 9, you should be able to store the stylus in the tablet when you're not using it for art or to charge it. i believe on my note 9 it takes 30 seconds to charge and you're good to go again.

I've only used a screenless drawing tablet once or twice, it may be a little bit slipperier compared to some screenless tablets. The other hurdle will be finding a drawing app that you like using

Definitely not worth it imo. At least for me, the double tap on the pencil 2 is useless because I'm used to pressing buttons on a wacom pen with my thumb, and you can't tap with a thumb. I know that some people use the index finger to press buttons, they will find it more convenient. I started looking at pigment numbers on my paints at http://www.artiscreation.com.. Cleared up some retarded thoughts I was having:
1. Gouache is just watercolor with chalk in it. (PW18) Knew they weren't that different but pretty funny.
2. I couldn't find Titanium White in the store for gouache, only permanent white and was surprised to see a white watercolor called china white. Turns out they are both just titanium white PW18.
3. I didn't realise my Dark Hooker Green watercolor was a mix of three pigments.

So here's my question, is it a bad idea to get paints with more than 1 pigment in them? Seems like it would fuck up your color mixes, as if you already had mixed 3 colors straight out of the tube.

Of course there's a point to still life. It's the same skill set, and you don't have to worry about the model moving, over time. You have control over positioning, viewing angle, lighting, and the objects in the scene - you can focus on textures you need practice on, like cloth, plants, metals, fruit, bones, whatever you want to include.
Every time you pick up a pencil, brush, or stylus, it's an opportunity to explore and practice and learn. It's also a good way to warm up - I'll often do a simple still life in oils if I've taken a break from them, or if I want to try out new paints, or brushes. And, it's fun.

Also, what brand of paint? You might have cheap pigment not mixing well.

Learn it with someone :3
I’m learning it with a girl I’ve been in love with for years and probably won’t ever work and haven’t had any success with and it’s still a lot of fun so it’s not so grindy, and you can compare your work

Scott Robertson How to Draw. And having models by you to kitbash and rotate in perspective. It's fundies but also a lot of mechanical design and shape design in terms of silhouettes and poses. Anatomy so you understand figure drawing and the mechanics of how mechs move like people, animal/comparative anatomy helps too.

I'm trying to use Clip Studio Paint and it keeps doing this thing that I can't really describe so I can't Google it to find a solution. I am trying to draw a half circle and it just sort of stops tracking and it doesn't come out as a good half circle?

What's the proper way to using perspective boxes? Say I draw the box as if I'm looking up at it, I fill all the other forms within that box until I have to go outside the box to be able to draw whatever I'm drawing in proportion. Is this a proper way of using boxes to draw something in space?
