It would be bad if I try to adopt Soul Eater's drawing style (anime, not manga) as my own?

Since it was a style that I always liked a lot since the first time I saw it ...

And I'm going to give it my personal touch in terms of character design, but the way of drawing and expressing will be the same as in the anime ...

Is it a bad idea to do it?

post your current drawing "style"

You can try. It's going to look extremely derivative, but you can try. You should absorb more media though, it's always better to have a wide range of influences.

I’m biased because I love Soul Eater, I think it’d be really cool, do it

This. Why have an inferior version of Soul Eater's style when you can have the best version of your own style? Take influence, but add your own dash of creativity and mix it with other influences as well.

why would you copy something so dated

My style is something "moldable" ... And I've been practicing the drawing style of anime for a while ...

Sorry if the photo is not of good quality ...

>> No.4028110

Your "style" is "moldable" because it's generic. There's nothing wrong with that. We often use generic to mean bad but really it just means that it's somewhere around the middle of the style spectrum. But that's where you start if you want to develop your own style, or that can just be your style.

All I'm saying is, you do you because no-one gives a fuck here. And the sooner you get it into your head that if this is what you want to draw then that's what you should draw and fuck everybody else - especially here on /ic/, the meme-est, most pedantic fucking place I've ever had the displeasure to get sucked into - the happier you'll be.

At best I could use some things like the color palette that ohkubo uses on its covers and artworks ...

nope, that shit doesn't look moldable. That neck looks like reflection of your actual skill and not the "style". No Line weights too. The Soul Eater manga is a better reference than the anime.

at least learn drawing other poses first. Looks like you want to skip the fundamental of western standard of drawing, just like all of aspiring "anime" artists of /ic/

If you insist on anime Follow what this chinese anime artist guy is doing. Learn how he copies anime drawings. It does simplified character drawing but it's good enough that if you follow on it. You'll be better than most of Facebook/Deviantart anime artists.

What exactly makes this anime's style different from any other generic anime? It looks run of the mill to me. Explain yourselves weebs.

It's actually mostly the psycho smiles and some of the more exaggerated expressions, not a lot else.

>> No.4028138

I like the later manga style more than the anime. You get weird angular psycho designs like Asura and Giriko and the clowns. Loved seeing Justin get more physically deformed and his proportions drawn wonkier and more misshapen as he descended into madness over the course of the series.

Soul Eater’s character designs are underrated and that not just because I really want to fuck Maka

If you like uneven eyes and weird smiles, give a chance to the Hellsing manga.

That and that the anime designs improved to some extent how the characters looked in the manga at the beginning ...

Don’t copy one style. What I do is copy from 3 or 4 of my favorite artists. Copy hair from one. Eyes from another, proportions from one and clothing/ color from the last

I like the soul eater anime style a lot, but the way I design my characters, the color palette I apply and so on.

It already comes from other influences ...
