No meme, which is better, Loomis or Bridgman? All you crabs tell me to study Loomis, but Bridgman clicks so much more than fun with a pencil. Should I just study Bridgman or am I setting myself up to NGMI?

Whichever one makes more sense to you. If Brindgeman is more helpful, do Bridgeman

I have yet to see someone who uses loomis method and his drawings dont look like shit
everyone recommends him but no one draws like him
but there is no point in me telling you this because 10 people will come and say LOOMIS GOOG and unironically defend shit like pic rel (my stash of failed loomis studies which dont teach the beginner anything)

This.
Whatever material clicks better and is engaging enough for you to stick with till the end. Try vilppu and other stuff also. Maybe even an unknown teacher might be good for you.

If it clicks for him that's good. Imagine discarding materials which builds good fundamentals that you can actually process just because crabs told you should stick to le epin meme man under all circumstances.

They teach different things, if you are a pure beginner who can't even construct basic forms than you'd be better off with Loomis. It'd be even better if you did drawabox (or something similar) where you just practice drawing basic geometric forms in perspective. Then you can do Loomis and learn the basics of drawing the figure, hands, face, etc. After that if you need more anatomy and feel like you're not a pure beginner anymore you can take a stab at bridgman which will give you more anatomical insight than just doing Loomis (anatomy is only a small part of his books). "Loomis" is also really vague when people keep regurgitating it. For example, after Bridgman you could do move on to Loomis' more advanced books like "creative illustration" and get a fuck load out of it. Bridgman doesn't touch on any of that stuff since he's only concerned with teaching you figure drawing. Basically if you're a beginner than don't do Loomis or Bridgman, just practice basic forms. Then do the intro loomis books then bridgman and then you can do more loomis if you want.

Bridgman made more sense to me too. Why would you be ngmi if you are learning something?

I think Loomis kinda makes everything look easier at the expense of omitting harder info, that's why ppl try and try with his methods and keep failing.

But, I second "Creative Illustration" from him. It's got a lot of info that Bridgman doesn't explain. And Bridgman doesn't explain at all. He descirbes, which sucks.

Heck, get bammes, goldfinger, hampton and uldis zarins too. If one of them fails at one aspect, someone's bound to pick it up for you.

Speak for yourself. I understood Loomis just fine.

Loomis is just a method of construction. Don't blame Loomis when you don't even know how to draw basic 3D forms like an ovoid. You'll run into the same problem with anything else at this level. It's like getting mad for falling over on your bike when you haven't even learned how to balance on two wheels yet.

All of them are good and have something to offer. Loomis teaches draftsmanship as well as figure drawing and anatomy stuff, for example. Read as many different books by different authors as you can.

Same for me. I love Bridgman. Go with him, I love my figures thanks to him.

Loomis is just a learning resource like any other, the only difference is that /ic/ likes to use him to shitpost. Pick whoever clicks with you, be it Loomis, Bridgeman, Reilly or any other the more modern ones.
