Do master studies. Try to find new artists you didn't know of or didn't care about. Try to explore stuff, draw different variations of something, sketches, doodles, caricatures. Draw from life: people, cars, buildings, furniture in your room, random things you have, food. Draw random blobs and turn them into something. Illustrate a book. Draw requests in draw threads. Go to the "roll to draw emotions" thread. Draw rocks, trees, animal skulls, bugs, animals, primitive buildings, from photos. Draw a random animal and turn it into a monster. Just draw.

I draw on a4 for most practice, especially stuff I'm going to be churning through, like firgure and perspective practice, where it will be page after page after page, a3 is what I draw larger images on, and especially anything I want to show off, I draw large and in a3, such as scenery or a specific figure drawing I have in mind. drawing with an overhand grip forces you to draw a bit bigger in general. Set two points that describe the height and size of the figure that you want to start drawing. If you want the figure to take the whole page, make the two points that far apart. You need to submit a support ticket on Twitter, let that process (this is when they'll say you were being "suspicious" and you need a phone number), and they should send an email with this information. You reply to that email and say "I don't have a phone number that I can provide, and I'm not a bot, so can you please unlock my account?" and they *should* do it. Be polite.

When you start out experimenting:
- Grayscale first -> muddy muted dull color.
- Color first -> simple and shallow values.
What you want to do is to tackle both, have color study, value study and start understanding both together. If you only pick one you are going to make the same mistake I do, thinking they're seperate entities and end up being shit at one of them constantly.

For the From Software stuff, prettyy sure its a combination of photobash and some level of overpainting. So if u wanna make From Soft art stuff, learn Photobash, overpaint to hide bashing details, learn atmospheric lighting, some post processing painting techniques. Also learn how to write and world building so your environment pieces can at least tell a little bit of stories.

I just started drawing and people say that there's no difference between learning with paper and a tablet (a tablet won't make you draw better). However, I am wondering whether that is really true, given that drawing with a tablet would let me easily erase or adjust lines, and add colors. Basically add functionality that I don't have with paper. I understand that the fundamentals don't change regardless of whether it's paper or digital. But maybe the functionality would help progress faster? Maybe not, idk, this is a stupid questions thread.

As an aside, I know about the danger of getting the habit of drawing a shitty line and erasing it and repeating that 10 times for each line until you get it right. I try to draw lines properly the first time.

what the fuck does "style" mean anymore. Every time I see a stylized work it's dismissed as "yeah that's just a variant on anime/disney/tumblr/concept art". When it comes to /ic/ the term "style" is relatively meaningless like soul vs soulless. Just another word to say you like or dislike something without knowing why. The line or dot you see on the top of the head is not a point of origin, but a parting direction. Hair strands grows almost complete evenly within the hair area.

Try to first visualize the hair as a hedgehog, with each strand stiffly pointing straight up. Then loosen, part, comb and style them. How you do that will determine how the hair looks and where the parting line will be visible.

I had the same kind of misconception when I was learning hair. Maybe watch some ZBrush FiberMesh tutorials to get a better visualization.

For the first one its probally because /ic/ gets a lot of 'does any one know this style' posts when its just art that slightly diverges from the norm or something to specific to pinpoint. For the second one the internet idea of 'style' doesn't exist in the classical 'renisance style'/'abstract style' because its usually a movement not what one person makes. But an internet version of a 'style' is how one diverges from reality in their art. Ex
>Why are anime eyes so big? AKA not like reality
>Because its their style.
This has lead to the slippery slope of
>You made a mistake AKA you diverged from reality
>Its my style
The word is also meaningless because a bunch of beginners use it to try and make their work unique or, as stated before, a crutch.

Yeah it's certainly just a meme about quality on /ic/ but even outside of this shithole internet art style seems to be overcentralised. That's more of what I mean over "style good/bad." You can look at a majority of art and tell that the artist is from tumblr, watches a certain anime, or admires the splash art in League or whatever. It's like the influences on style are too few, common, and obvious; it's too easy to compare it with something preexisting. Yes there exist some truly unique ones but with the internet and all it really does feel like it's coming down to "nothing is original anymore". Although that's just my personal experience.

To A LOT of people, yes. Money to most is the ultimate goal.
To others it's to be on the same level of skill as their idols. To work long side them or in the same company. To work at a company they admire.
Maybe to draw perfectly what they envision in their mind. To tell a story, to express themselves.
There is no one set answer to art, it's a individual basis of what it means to make it.

To continue:
Just ask yourself, why do you want to draw? What about drawing makes you happy? Where do you want to go with it? How will you achieve it?
Everyone has different goals and ideals. They want to accomplish different styles. Don't feel like you have to do what everyone else is doing, if that's not what you want.
Ngmi shouldn't be taken seriously. It's just a insult, it's not constructive criticism. It's probably said by someone who is bitter and unhappy. So why would you want to listen to someone like that? Why do you want to please those people, waste time with them? Everyone has a different pace and learns different. Not everyone has good intentions. Just try to have fun with art.

>> No.4028265

>>4027870
Everytime you're trying to read or write from a hard drive, an SSD will be faster. Most notable difference you'll see is during start up.

More importantly you can designate a scratch disk (and set a size obviously) for Photoshop. This disk portion will be used when there's no space left in your RAM.

For example, you designate 8GB of RAM to Photoshop, and 100GB on a scratch disk. While PS is running, it will store portions of the document, document history, etc in RAM. This increases in size as the document gets more complex (or large) so let's say PS needs 15 GB to store your amazing, 6 foot by 9 foot painting while your work on it. It will store 8GB in RAM and the remaining 7GB on your scratch disk.

Since SSDs are much faster when it comes to read/write operations, writing and then reading from that 7GB on your scratch disk will be super fast compared to an HDD scratch disk.

PS: Scratch Disk is a setting in Photoshop not a designated type of drive. You can find more info here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optimize-photoshop-cc-performance.html

>Most notable difference you'll see is during start up

What I meant is "most notable difference you'll see when using most software that's stored on the SSD is during startup of said software". Or, if you have your OS on the SSD, then you'll notice a great improvement while booting up.
