What do you think of my art guide /ic/? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kH9HOpaHR_vayovcl47CM8PI0YgvGjuLJ7xx0h2VQTc/mobilebasic

It's good my guy but please remove the "various 4cham /ic/ threads" if you plan on releasing this in other places, we don't need new faggots who don't care about the board or its culture to come here and fuck up the place, we already have enough of them.

First of all, let me start with a compliment.

Well done! You've done two important things with writing this text. You've shown mindfulness and dedication to your craft by actively thinking about what you do and how you do it,
instead of just accepting things and not bothering to dig further. And you've made the effort of putting what you've learned and read into words, which helps with understanding it, as
well as allowing you to make new connections that were not obvious before.

(on a side note: this is also why every artist should critique - and critique PROPERLY -, their work and that of others. It's not only to help others. Critiquing forces you to properly
analyze and condense and put into words what's good or wrong about an artwork. This greatly helps understanding, which then can be applied to your own work.)

Ok, on with the feedback.

- After your personal introduction, you kinda jump right into it. I would suggest adding to the introduction a section about the subject you're writing about. To let the reader know what
to expect, and give an indication of the parameters of the subject. What things you'll cover in your article. Some subjects can be very broad, and you might want to focus on one specific area.
If the article is about a specific challenge, explain the problem before you offer the solution.
- Related to that, maybe rethink the title. "Thinking like an Artist" is a broad subject. Thinking about what? Creativity? Picking subject matter? Visual communication, drawing techniques, etc.?
It seems you focus mostly on how to draw, so make the title reflect that. This will also help people what to expect when they see the title.

part 1

>>4019919

part 2
- I have the impression a little bit that you had some problems figuring out in which section you should put what information. It can easily happen that there is an overlap with
certain topics. The best is to choose a basic structure for the article that is the simplest and most logical, even if it means that some topics get spread out a bit.
Since your article is about drawing, with tips and techniques to achieve the right mindset and use a good approach, I would suggest the following:

Introduction
- introduce yourself (do not make it too personal, also add a bit about your practical experience and achievements)
- describe the subject of the article.

Visual thinking
(chapter with general advice that is universally applicable as an artist).
- verbal mode vs. visual mode
- critical vs. visual dialogue

Life Drawing
(everything that is connected with drawing from life goes here).
- symbol drawing
- look, hold, draw

Drawing from the imagination
(everything that is connected with drawing from imagination goes here).
- visualisation
- construction
I realize it is a work in progress, but here is also some feedback on the formatting:

- Keep headings short and try not to use parentheses in them. It doesn't look good.
- be consistent with your use of headings.
- If you have a section with only one or two lines of text: if you will not add more, try to put it in another section.
- I'm getting a crick in my neck from turning my head :-) Format the text so that it doesn't stretch all the way between the screen edges.
- Make and use your own images. If not, add credit.
Hope that helps! Again, well done!

im gonna say what everyone else is thinking or should be thinking:

you don't seem good enough to be making an art guide, or to be giving others advice, especially if that anime scribble you posted in the OP and pic related are works to go on.
you should focus on studying more, you may get to that point some day, but there are enough shitters out there posting their scam courses and poor fool anons learning from ignorant 'artists' without you joining in on it too.

You aren't saying anything new that has not been said in better detail by much more credible sources, in short, your project is pointless.
Maybe someday though, keep at it.

p.s., imo fuck anime for this mindset it gets people like you into

Good stuff. This more or less captures what I think and feel about the drawing process. Bravo on the dedicated research, I'm far too unfocused and haphazard (read: lazy and unmotivated) for that. I just learned this stuff by autistically doodling for years and somehow managing to stumble upon some good art learning resources. And I'm still low-tier AF lmao.

Picrelated, tried the invisible drawing thing and then drew it for real. It was a very interesting exercise, I must say. I didn't literally see what I was drawing in invisible lines on my canvas but I knew where I needed to draw my lines and how. I even remember consciously thinking "no, wait, the shoulder should slope down more this way because her body is going to be angled away from the camera, yeah, let's do that instead" and then amending the line and 'redrawing' the body, even though what I was drawing was invisible. Really fascinating to see my mental drawing process unpaired from the visual feedback of what I'm drawing. And when I actually put it down on the canvas for real I did it more or less how I imagined I was doing it earlier with no second guessing, all in all took maybe 10 to 15 minutes, though some of that time was taken to prettify things like the eyelashes, but everything you see here was done with minimal erasing and ctrl-z'ing.

Another resource you should check out is https://www.youtube.com/user/moatddtutorials
Lots of interesting stuff there in regards to 3D form, perspective, drawing exercises and approaching drawing in a pragmatic, problem-solving fashion.

The OP pic ain't anniemoo bruh
And even though his line quality is severely lacking (chicken scratches bro, you gotta watch out for that) he seems to be on the right track as the drawing is fairly solid otherwise. If you look at it as just notes that he's sharing rather than a professional guide, I'd say it's pretty beneficial to have him around to help /beg/ who don't understand how to into drawing.
