Lemme tell you something about crappy "How to draw" books. They're trash, pushed out on the market to make a few bucks and be forgotten. Whether you learn anything or not is irrelevant to the creator and publisher, but they're not actively trying to sabotage you. They just suck.

But, here's the crux of the matter. Any artist who's actually going to make it someday can instinctively tell the difference between a crappy art instruction book, and a useful one. They will quickly outgrow the pablum designed for children, and find the good stuff. If you can't figure that out, you were never going to "make it" anyway.

I suggest Michael Hampton, then.

First section, gesture drawing. Second section, breaking down the anatomy into stick figures and basic shapes. Specific anatomy after that.

He shows you how to connect the gesture drawing with the "Stick figure" so that you maintain the sense of movement and form, while building a framework for muscles and bones.
