Can we please bring back art blogs? Places where artists can post artwork and write more than a short paragraph?

Now it's all pictures with the pencil in the frame pointing at the drawing like that's a natural position. LOL

I hated that about tumblr, for maximum “shareability” you’d try not to put too much information about your work n the description because people didn’t want that on their blogs or whatever.

I have a Pillowfort account and it’s pretty good for that. But it’s more like a personal journal, there aren’t enough users to treat it like a real social media platform,

I've been thinking about creating one at neocities. It must be pretty cool do your own page like the shit you have in your head.

I have one and it's the best option to me because you can really control how you want to present your art, gallery wise and viewing wise.
If you have already social media you can use that to promote whenever you have new art on your site.

I agree that it's pretentious af, but I believe it's purpose is to make the posts feel more engaging and personal to the followers, as if they're invited to get a glimpse behind the scenes to speak. It makes the posts more about the creation of the art as a lifestyle event, rather than the finished artwork.

The podcast One Fantastic Week had an episode where they discussed this. They called the concept something along the lines of "where the art lives".

If you sell originals or any physical objects such as art prints, instead of presenting them as perfectly cropped pictures you can take a photo of the object to show it as it exist in physical space with some appropriate props and setting. Pic related is an example.

Just find any ActivityPub enabled blog software. You can write your blog and people on pawoo/whatever meme site can follow you with their existing accounts.

Don't bother with anything where users need to actually sign up with a new account.

>> No.4012604

only reason i've ever put a pencil in is for sense of scale to a viewer. Mainly because my camera's lens was weird. I don't do it anymore, I just zoom out and take a photo of the whole page.

I listened to some art thot talk about this and it's like >>4012400 says. It's to make it feel like "I'm making this art right now as you scroll your feed" though the brush I'm holding is dry and the piece is finished, the thot discussed how to frame your hand the right way while pretending to paint.
It's sickening that people are open about this fake marketing shit with no shame whatsoever and I refuse. The worst I've done was put the pen I used next to the drawing for "presentation" and that made me roll my eyes already. Can I just post the fucking drawing please?

I also assume the pen/pencil specifically is a compositional way to direct the viewers eye to the drawing.

I'm of two minds. On one hand I hate the fakery of it, but on the other it's just playing the game. Gotta' do what you can to get ahead.

You hit the join button and it right away asks for your credit card information.
It was a kickstarted social media site tumblr clone that got really popular in the wake of the tumblr purge. You had to donate to the crowdfunding platform to get an access code. Nsfw artists jumped on the bandwagon, not realizing that the .io domain does not allow NSFW materials/pornography. (It was originally pillowfort.io).
I can only assume paypigs are holding on to it to justify their purchase and it's probably a bit of a hugbox--as is any site that gatekeeps in any way.
The site has probably had enough member growth to have advertisements run on it or be attractive to advertisers, but they're still charging well over six months later. I'd prefer if they gave you a free trial on a temporary username--not allow you to have a custom username/not post content/only like content/not comment it would allow the site to grow naturally and would encourage those that like the site to create a full account. But, I'm not a money grubbing SJW.

why should you be ashamed of showing what fucking pencil you used to draw? if you were actually popular or decent at drawing you’d know that half the questions you get on social media are about what tools you use. you assholes will get mad about anything.

I had this idea of making a meme account with really shitty drawings but nicely shot and edited, with every single supply I have including the hair dryer and I'm holding something different every time like a carrot, a toothbrush etc.
Someone with more time to waste than me should do it, you can probably make a meme career out of it.
