I'm not sure how to exactly put this, but the tween artist on instagram/polished turd/A S T H E T I C art style interests me. The style grew out of A. people wanting to get good at art without putting in the effort or B. People copying A. not knowing what they're doing.

The style at it's worst is a bad artist who uses filters (you know when an art piece has rainbow edges?), certain aesthetics (neon, vapor wave, future funk), memetic ideas (the technical version of meme. Think flower crows. bandages all over. cutting. vitilgo) and imitates artists (because of their lack of talent they also simplify). The image I used is an example of this. They added some filter, gave it the art piece an 'old windows' aesthetic, the memetic idea is their color pallet, and their style is badly copied anime. If you skimmed over the piece or knew nothing about art this would look nice.
What gets me is that this art is that it's the 'weaboo' art of this year, but because of digital editing and those memetic ideas they can turn a 3/10 piece to a 7/10.
What would happen is a good artist deconstructed these ideas and put them in their art? Have you noticed any trends like this IC? Do you know why this aesthetic exists?

It's bad but that's not a polished turd.

It’s fully a crutch, adding in extraneous shit like effects and overlays and stickers and shit makes it feel more quickly like a “finished” piece. I often see art like this and think about how much more interesting it would be if the artist hand-drew the effects— and it would probably push the artist a little more, too.

Definitely a nip. He's not using any crutches, just raw drawing and it shows, it's miles ahead of what OP and you describe.
We should do it too.

>> No.4012453

>>4012446
I'm the OP and that what I was thinking of. We should imitate the styles of these artists because what they lack in fundies they make up in 'rule of cool'. Instead of crabbing over how so random teen or artist is more popular than us we should try to understand why they are. These kids have somehow distilled cool looking into an easily imitatable formula that has everything except fundies.

There's an artist from japanese comickers 3 who does pinups kind of how you're describing but entirely hand drawn and polished. I don't remember the artist name but it was good.

My understanding of these words is pretty different from yours.
A E S T H E T I C is fundamentally a style of art, or maybe just a way of thinking about art, it could be done well or done poorly or anywhere in between.
"Polished turd" on the other hand is more of just a straight description of quality, a description for a specific way that a work has gone wrong. It's by definition a bad thing. Basically it means a drawing with poor fundamentals that has been rendered a lot and had a lot of details added to it to try to make up for the weak structure.

So instead of viewing the style as 'inherintly bad' one should view it as another style. I can see how my wording wasn't well phrased and I see your point of view as it is another way if approaching art. Insteading of focusing on details to the point it it loses all aesthetic pleasure they try to be lose with realism in favor of being pleasing to the eye.
Reminds me of the bad anime perspective thread /IC/ is having right now. On the grid side it's correct, but it lost all aesthetic plesure because it's warped. The other annon who said the style is better than grinding boxes was also getting at that.

Imagine actually doing studies

>> No.4012616

>>4012603
Unironically this. I think I've never done studies. Just do a piece, notice what's wrong (and ask), and consciously try to fix it or at least remember what you did wrong for the next one.
Some people get good grinding 200 hands or studying specific stuff in detail but I can't imagine living doing that for everything you tackle. Like, it's fine to study watching videos on youtube and reading tips for 2 hours if you notice your perspective or something is off, but actually "doing studies" like I see here sometimes... yikes

I'm sure they are aware that they are using multiple crutches, but they must enjoy it.

I see something similar on twitter sometimes. There are popular artists who struggle to draw shoulders or more than one facial expression but still get tons of traction because of their “anime girl with crude lineart and 100 pink overlays” aesthetic. I guess the filters and aesthetic add a cutesy/nostalgic vibe which appeals to a broader crowd in general so it’s more likely to get likes/rts.

That's not a "polished turd".

A polished turd would be a drawing with tons of glaring issues but the artist tries to cover them up with rendering and lots of colors and shit and makes little to no adjustments.

you can just see how they apply fundamental skills (proportions, movement, balance...) to this very simple and cartoony style and it just works perfectly imo. everything looks intentional as opposed to actual weeb kid art where you can tell their style is just a crutch. and i like pinkie and pepper too!
