Do you use a journal or app to keep track of hours spent practising or working on a piece?

Do you use a pomodoro timer?

Do you keep track of your goals or are they vague?

>> No.4009325

tracking anything art related is absolutely autistic, just draw and post to blog. easy/done

I track my time in different activities, but I'm not too anal about it. A good estimation of how many hours I have worked per week, and on which areas, is all I need. It helps me keep on schedule, know whether I need to focus a bit more or I can relax instead, etc. As I work by myself, I need this to have an objective measure of my time.

maybe, but I rather not self diagnose.

>>4009325
that's cool, but then you'll never see the full hours spent - like when you check how much time you've spent on a video game, and it surprises you.

>>4009366
thanks, that's helpful. I work alone too so I feel that an objective measure of time is important too.

I don’t play video games because I’m not an autistic manchild.

hey OP, i recommend you using Manic Time to track how much you spend on everything on your computer. The free version is plenty enough.
I usually don't use a pomodoro timer anymore, but it was a good way to keep focused at first.
I don't really keep track of my goal as I have just long term goals for now, nothing short term. I should probably set some checkpoints along the way.

If you have trouble getting started you should definitely divide your long term goals into more accessible goals.

I don't usually have any issue, but I'm definitely gonna do that. My only short term goals are simply related to social media (followers, commissions, etc.).
Thanks for the tip anon.

The goal must be to make money on our art even if it means education, or school. But if it's just a hobby idk.

To make something good can be all consuming, and one has to work when one is in the flow. Even if that means in the night or whatever. its not 9-5 time shit lol,

the point is I’m not autistic (like a video gamer) and feel no need to track my TIME while drawing

In fact one of the best things about drawing and getting into the zone is completely losing track of time then looking up and realizing the sun set 5 hours ago and it’s time to go to sleep.

The only time you’d ever need to think about time is when you’re working for a deadline, which is never fun to draw for, ever. Mainly because you have to be conscious of time.

I feel if you earn good money, I mean like a real job money on video game or art, who cares how time scheduled - unless ur a person that feels one really need to break up time for working good. autistic or not huh?

Art should not be scheduled, cringe that you’d even imply that. People who unironically pump out art for deadlines are soulless and do NOT enjoy creating art.

OP post implied schedules and timers, I totally agree with u. But it's not black/white. Some need that shit. Result is of the work itself if its soulless or not. That's up for interpretation

isn't that what most pro artists are? Kitbashers, and shortcutters, who have to meet deadlines?

I only track my improvement from half years to half years , if say l started in january this year l'll sit down to draw a character l like for an hour, then 6 months later (june 1st) l'll do the same exact thing with the same exact character, that's never failed to show me my improvement

You won't see much improvement from month to month, but half years and whole years are where you see the difference
