is it possible to become creative? I've always found myself attracted to art but never saw myself as a creative individual. If so, how can I boost my creativity?

Sit in a gray room with no input for 3 days. 8-12 hours a day. Your mind will become so bored you will begin to hallucinate full, vivid worlds in your minds eye. It is a hard reset for your dopamine receptors and will act as a phoenix to your imagination/creativity. Repeat as necessary-- generally 2-3 times per year.

It's all about inspiration. Every artist who seems creative to you really just collected a shitton of art and copied from it. They collect other artists, photographers, movies, music, books, or even just magazines. They simply search for inspiration the whole time.

If you do this long enough, you will also develope creativity and will know what to draw.
The hard part about it is just to be able to draw from imagination too without it looking like shit.

I tried checking the /tg/ archives for "creativity|creative" and fuck me was that a bad idea. There's one guy who's declared war on creativity (on the board for make-belief) and through persistance seems to have actually gotten people on his side.

Ask /hyw/ at >>>/co/108544496 be sure to point out you've already watched the video in the header ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb5oIIPO62g )

/tg/ usually recommends (for worldbuilding) taking one specific fact about your story/setting and thinking through the logical consequences of that fact. After all those facts are settled think of another. I feel like there's a second method but I forgot what it was. It'll be in one of the top two links, but the second one is shitposted to shit. Functional but with a lot of dross.

Have >opinions. Head canon and shit, thinking about the things you read
I like reading garbage online and thinking about how I'd redo scenes or conversations

Also if you're reading this 9 days and 23 hours later respond and ramble about your specific problem. It could be that you just don't think like that or it could be stress in your life or something. I'm talking about how to tell a story on the art board so what I'm talking about offhand almost certainly isn't on the money.

Also also good artists borrow and great atists steal- unless it's One Punch Man execution is much more important than the idea and there's only so many to go around. Reinterpreting shit you like is normal.

As for "creativity" just find something you want to draw or even just imitate, a hobby related thing or artists work and expand on it in ways you'd like to see it.

Learn fundamentals and you will be able to be more creative. A way to really see how crrative you are as a human do this, set two alarms in the morning one 40 mins before you need to wake up and one at that 40 min mark when you have to get up. When your first alarm goes off either snooze it once then turn it off, or just turn it off. Then wake up at your second alarm, I gurantee you will have the most insane other worldly set of story driven dreams within that 40 mins, then write what happened.

One very important thing to mention is : LOOK AT ALL KINDS OF STUFF.
If your only inspirations are anime/manga? Look at US comics/european stuff. You only play FPS games? Try fighting games, platformers, beat em up,puzzle games, sport games.
Only know european knights & japanese samurai? Look at African folklore/Mesoamerican culture/middle east stuff. You only watch Soccer? Go on youtube & watch the best baseball/UFC/Curling stuff. Look at popular stuff & ask yourself why it's popular, look at obscure stuff & see how innovative it is.

Oh and that one's important- the Improvement Pill video is the one who came up with it (or claims to, his video is 8 months old but there's another video using the same term from a year ago), and he says that writing is indistinguishable from very vigorous thinking. You're mainly supposed to be writing about your circumstances and how to improve them (try to avoid blaming outside circumstances- they're harder to force)

mix stuff you've seen anon. The real trick is learning to break ideas up and blend them at varying viscosities.

Look around you. Everything is a combination of concepts.

Evangelion is just giant robots, Christian iconography, genetic engineering all mashed together into one weird thing.
Skyrim is medieval stereotypes like dragons and mages mixed with Nordic viking cultures.
Rick and Morty is just Back to the Future but with dimension hopping instead of time travel.
Star wars is literally just medieval fantasy with sci fi paint poured on top of it.

You can get duds, too though. The problem is rarely with the concepts used and more dependent on the execution. Netflix's Bright attempts to combine medieval fantasy stereotypes with a modern 2010's setting but fails- the fantasy elements too often stick out and clash with the world in unnatural ways. magic doesnt quite bleed into technology in a satisfying and smooth way, the blend of its core elements are chunky and awkward and were obviously ideas thought of retrospectively.

this kind of idea blocking ideas and mixing them translates easily to concept art and design. look past the surface level first ideas everyone gets like "gun sword" and "armor but it lights up" and "post apocalypse guy with gas mask" and try to mix things to create stuff you've never seen before.

John Cleese on creativity. Just watch it.

Creativity is not a talent, but a skill. A state of mind, like playfulness. An ability to be open-minded and just mix up random ideas and see what works.

Also, a lot of the comments here have little to do with creativity.
- Cutting everything off to start to do something has more to do with managing discipline than with being creative.
- Don't spend too much time looking at other people's work. That has nothing to do with creativity.
You will fill your head with other people's ideas and then regurgitate them. furthermore, your brain is not in 'creative' mode when you do it. It is expecting,
and depending on, external input, i.e. is passive, not active.
- Depending on substances to do something, how will that work out for you in a professional environment? Is that a dependable, long-lasting strategy?

Small comment on how to use reference material / work from other artists.

Yes, I have a large collection of material from a wide variety of artists. But I do not use it as inspiration. Only as reference when I'm asked to work in a specific style,
or when I need to solve a specific problem.

Another artist's work is something that is already a refined, specific product. It is a viewpoint, it has a frame of reference. It's a finished dish.
To make your own meal, you do not dig out stuff from another dish and cook it again and put it in your own. You use fresh ingredients.

So, yes, feel free to collect work from other artists, but be mindful how you use it.

Slightly reference really strange obscure stuff from the '60s-'80s such as cool concepts from failed B movies, anime that never got a TV spot/home release and isn't on CR or Netflix, scifi novels that aren't PKD wannabes, etc.

Stop using the internet and meditate. When you have all your faculties running at their best and most of your thoughts/ideas come from your own mind rather than almost 1:1 regurgitation of input, you'll easily be creative.
