IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Previous thread: >>3972462

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead
2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller
3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

READ THE STICKY if you need guidance when you haven't even started.

Sticky: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

If you're feeling particularly stuck, put your pencil to paper (or pen to tablet) and draw your character and/or waifu interacting with their environment. :)

Learn how to lay down clean, flat areas of tone with a pencil. Just draw some squares and practice shading them with different values as smoothly and perfectly as possible. It looks like you made some attempt to have shadows on the clothing, but it's hard to tell because your tone is so messy.

not really sure what i'm doing or what kind if style i want, or how to make things more appealing
i haven't even started working with color and it still slips from my mind what i have to pay attention to (halftones, how soft a terminator should be, how much the ambient light should illuminate the darker areas, etc)
rendering is probably the final frontier i think, it seems like i'll never understand it. seeing other peoples drawings where they have tones in the skin and stuff blended perfectly together amazes me

I would lube to offer this sketch up as a challenge. Johnny 5 is really good subject matter for anyone wanting to grind fundies and perspective. He's nothing but cubes and cylinders. But as you can tell by my drawing here, when it's not perfect you can rrally tell. You can hide it in something organic like a person but with machinery, it stands out right away.

My takeaway is you should draw big. If you try to put in all these ellipses on a tiny picture it will get very messy and not work out for you. Get a ruler, so it the right way. Take your time.

Few things I know, the guy throwing the punch doesn't look like he's throwing it and I just placed his pieces there. To fix this and the problems on the guy recieving I know I need to construct better to fit the 3d space better ,which is why it looks flat also, and his arm is actually supposed to be throwing a hook, I made it into a weird cross hook hybrid which wouldn't work. The perspective on that arm and the other guy's left forarm was tricky I definitelt need to read more about the body in perspective. I also think I got a little carried away on the rendering.

Maybe think of the shape of the whole head, instead of just the jaw, this will help the face and hair look better

No that's copying. You should understand the shapes and then draw those shapes with your knowledge of perspective and form.

When you copy there are a lot of tiny details that you won't notice and undestand the importance off.

This is like... The ultimate beg move. I sketched this whole on the phone with a customer with no reference obviously. Made me realize I really don't know how arms connect to the torso nor how legs connect to the hips. Took a few guesses. Also forearms? Never really thought about it but they are not just cylinders. Drawing without ref is not easy. It's no kangaroo fetus but it's quite sloppy.

Hey Anon, you've got drive I'll give you that I've seen you posting in every /beg/ thread for a couple month's but you gotta branch out dude. Just doing the same construction, same thing over and over is never going to get you anywhere. You need to sit down and do some serious life drawing studies so that you can really understand the forms your building and exactly what your exageratting when you make these stylized characters. You already have strong construction skills just apply them elsewhere and build up a stronger visual library.

Good luck bruv 1luv 420

Ctrl+Paint has some videos on digital linework. You'd probably be better off looking up videos of people doing digital inking specifically rather than digital sketching, since the former is more commonly done and also requires great precision and control.
Many pro artists sketch with pencil and then scan in the drawing and switch to digital for inking and coloring. It's pretty much just always going to feel better to draw on paper, even with a top of the line tablet. If you like sketching on paper better then just keep doing that.

Your use of purple tones in the hair was a great addition and I think you should take a closer look at the colours on the cloak in your reference (it would add more visual depth to the piece)

>>3976649
That depends, if you can recognize very well many faces you saw before, but if you can't mentally visualize the face of someone that you have already seen, then you still have it. Also it's not a binary thing, there's different degrees of it.

I would lower the size of the brush. By selecting a rather thick brush and applying pressure, you will get an extreme variation of thickness (sorry for poor wording). It is often seen in art of absolute beginners. I would definitely choose a smaller brush to reduce the thickness variation. The difference of detail between bangs and twintails is also a bit too much. A visible collarbone would fit your style. I think that's all, definitely not bad.

Consider also looking into Proko and Karl Gnass before giving up.

I've started with Hampton (video lessons) and although I greatly value him as a teacher, I was completely confused after the first lesson when I was already supposed to draw gesture. I felt like it wasn't explained enough so my first gestures barely resembled humans, I've had no idea what to do and how to apply the knowledge. Maybe you need to be in contact with the teacher in order to progress, as the lessons (and books) might only be a base for something much deeper.

I temporarily switched to Proko and it became more clear though I definitely wouldn't choose him over Hampton. In my opinion it's the best to mixmatch if you feel you don't know/understand enough. I greatly recommends Gnass though if you can find the lessons, the way he draws gesture is very easy to understand and later replicate his method without looking at the videos, if you feel it might lack flow, watch more Hampton again.

Pic related: top left my first gestures after Hampton, bottom left the same, just after some time, on the right after Hampton, Proko and Gnass. Don't lose hope anon.

I'm phoneposting, but do you know his videos on gesture on YouTube? It's a free version of his course about gesture, and the actual course is what I looked at, but to be fair I only watched the first two lessons and then moved onto Hampton (again) and Gnass. Everyone seems to have a bit different approach, but Proko gives you the basics you can already start drawing gesture with. I believe it was called Figure Drawing Fundamentals, btw.

doesnt look like you have a feel for the form or weight at all
gesture drawings are supposed to flow to a certian degree in the first stages
You should be focusing on capturing the flow and weight distribution of the body before all the construction.
I reccomend watching this video on Ctrl Paint,

Eye shapes aren't drawn the the same from every angle anon, you're trying to claim its the character design but it's just a /beg/ thing. Maybe that happens in western cartoons like SpongeBob or the Fairly Odd Parents, because eyes are like stickers on the face there.

Check this example of a head in many angles. It's the same character in all of them, very clearly, but you gotta do some changes along the rotation.
For example, for the side view eyes are pretty much a half circle or a triangle. You can still try to add those 2 pointy eyelashes, but get the eye position right.

The first thing I noticed, the shoulders are very wide for a girl, the whole upper torso and the head very small. She seems like she would be 10 heads tall. There are no shoulders, they're more like bumps, look the tanktop straps would immediately slide off them. You're free to leave your heads alone for now, work on your bodies because there's a big difference in skill. Mostly proportions are off. The one on the left which is half erased looks better btw. The distance between head and collarbone, shoulders width are about good but still she has no shoulders but bumps. If you only fix the proportions and define shoulders it will look great.

Besides the obvious "study from real pictures" answer...
Let your hand loose and do dynamic, flowing shapes, like the hair on my drawing. This hair could be pretty much grass or fire or vegetables or whatever. I recommend looking at real pictures, identify areas, and let your lines flow in an interesting way.

Also, do the same for hair. Hair is not 1 shape full of lines, only pros can do it that way. Hair is tons of different shapes put together on our heads.

All respect, however the flow in your hair is quite chaotic and I wouldn't advise to reference off it. Try to draw less strands, see it more as a flowing shape, feel it from tip to ends, imagine its volume and convey it in long, dynamic lines

What do you mean "move on"? There is no "moving on", "leveling up", or "progressing" in art. You will continually learn and relearn the same things over and over and over. There is no finish line. There is no reward. It's just a cycle.

I'll say it's decent enough for you to sketch a real drawing you'd like to do and post it here so we can start identifying more concrete faults. That's the fun way of doing things.
Of course we could agree your body is still nothing like a real human and make you study anatomy and muscles for 30 years until you master it but no one wants that.

But yeah I've seen worse. No one has legs that long but you still placed everything where it should be. Now draw something. Think about why you're drawing. Is it to draw wrestlers? Dragons? Robots? Gotta start doing some of it between studies.
Also, Loomis is good but the best way to complement it is to use his teachings to draw people WHILE LOOKING at nude models as a reference. I don't say "copy the reference" exactly, but use Loomis construction to RECREATE the model. There's quickpose and line of action for that.

You should work on clean deliberate lines first. Slow & steady to begin with. It will help with wanting a sketchy style if you do choose to take that route down the line. I think he meant deliberate in that this style emphasizes shapes and form instead of directly trying to draw it in a sketchy fashy. A few lines describing the eye socket in your pic, for example, and some value to show the depth - instead of literally drawing the eye.
I'd recommend giving Bridgman a go to learn anatomy, you might jive with it.

It works great for me. I think it lacks a few features for advanced photo editing that photoshop has, but I never came across something that was missing for me, because using it for drawing only.
You might have a look at a few additional brushes. I downloaded some from this list here: https://conceptartempire.com/free-krita-brushes/
Especially like "Krita Brushkit v8.2"

I use one mechanical B or HB, (Uni Kuro Toga but doesn't matter that much) and I have a 2B and 2H (nothing special).
I tend to use them only to pass time when school is boring or for sketches.

Just take an HB or whatever you have, and start doing sketches.

Leg is folded weird. Looks like the calf is the same width as the ankle and going off to the side pigeon-toed. It needs to be tucked under the thigh.

Not a fan but that's more personal preference at work. Looks much better than your coloured work. I'm honestly surprised that you can produce work of this quality. Good job my man.
