when does drawing start being fun again?

I realized a couple years ago how bad at drawing I really am. Now that I know my flaws, I hate trying to draw anything because its immediately obvious how unpleasant the drawing is and I want to do better. But grinding and grinding just doesn't feel rewarding and any gains are absolutely minimal, even after doing several 15 minute sketches a day for weeks on end. I don't want to make any complete art pieces because all I can produce is garbage.

It's much worse when you can not see your mistakes. There are always bad drawings, but eventually some good ones will appear. At least you should do a complete drawing per week to know what to improve.

Also Huh?

1)post your DAMN WORK if you want help, otherwise it's shooting in air and venting
2) >>>fundies
everybody starts off trash
3)Everything you said is stupid, every drawing is a puzzle treat it that way, take your time, try to get every single piece of art to the best place it could be before moving on.

I never report anything but I make an exception for 'Huh?' posters. I wonder if /ic/ even gets moderated at all. I think some pissjug from another board has to come over once in a while to clean up the trash.

The secret is, no matter how good you get, all you see are the mistakes and unresolved portions of your work when you step back and take the whole thing in. All artists I know feel this way to some degree and just put on a different face because we don't want to bum everybody out. Drawing is only fun for children.

Make something you enjoy drawing without expecting to be a master. The process of drawing itself should be enjoyable enough. Pro-tip: When you are done with a drawing take one last look at it, congratulate yourself on a job well done and archive it. Only heavily critize and nitpick on the studies you do.

Here's the super secret technique to enjoy drawing while studying
>draw thing you like
>check drawing of thing you like for things you did wrong
>choose the one thing you did wrong the worst, and only that one
>spend some time to study thing you did wrong
>apply it to drawing of thing you like
>compare old and new drawings
>you very likely improved at thing you did wrong and drawing of thing you like is now slightly better
>start new drawing of thing you like
This makes the grind about 100x more bearable

Drawing for me is just fun in general, putting marks on the paper/canvas is just a fun activity in and of itself. Even if I draw a giant turd I still have a great time. If drawing becomes a chore or you have to force yourself then why do it?

Not him but it does work. I don't know why anyone would consistently draw something they hate for improvement. Worst part is after you get good at things you hate you still will suck at what you like and essentially have to start over on many things.

What if you don't like something essential?

For instance, if you want to draw a comic and hate drawing furniture, or people, or trees, at some point that'll fuck you up.

>> No.3974850

>>3974780
From my perspective if I really wanted to make a comic I would be interested in things I deemed necessary to make a finished product. You should challenge yourself but outright hating every second of a task won't get you far. Its like saying you only like drawing perfect tits but the body is a stick figure. At some point you should gain the drive to slowly improve other areas. If not be happy with tits on a stick.

Ok, so people will still have to consistently draw things they hate for improvement.Retard.

It doesn't. You stapled art onto your arm and these are the consequences of an ill fit.
Vidya, programming, video editing, sports, socializing, one of these were your original skill.

Yeah I tried drawing a plaster cast Greek bust. I don’t realize the thing but it was kinda cheap and I wanted something bigger than just a mouth or nose or eye to do seeing and other work with.
I failed miserably and struggled with feeling like maybe I could not learn. But then I got a skull and did a cool shadow box set up and am in the middle of several studies and I love it. It looks cool and I like drawing it and it’s a classic subject and blah blah blah. You get the point.
And now because I like drawing this I NEED to get it right, forcing me to learn what I did wrong and correcting it.

It's about acceptance. You accept that you're bad, there is always room to improve, and it's all okay.

If I hated what I was drawing I'd stop. However, hating your work because you currently suck is unavoidable and something you have to push trough because you like your subject matter. You will burn out if you constantly draw without interest.

this, fundamentals and whatnot are very important but keeping the desire to draw is your top-most priority.

> wonder if /ic/ even gets moderated at all.

I reported a lot of political bait posts on /ic/ a few days back and they were deleted quite quickly, I guess jannies doesn't care when it's just something annoying rather than posts that can cause a more significant loss of quality on the board.
