Ive always found paintings rendered in this style to be domewhat off-putting. That isnt to say they arent beautiful and incredible displays of prowess however.

Perhaps it is because they are so lifelike, but clearly are not real and this confuses the brain?

i would assume glued and trimmed gold leaf,
but if you do digital art there is an easier method where you get thermal foil and set where you want the gold to stick as completely white, then send the printed art through a laminator with the foil and then peel.
