Istebrak caught wind of people on /ic/ calling her a sadist queen and her male subscribers were masochists enjoying punishment from their art waifu.
She was complaining on a stream a good while ago how everyone here was an incel.
Which made me laugh a little because she's indirectly insulting a good chunk of her "students".

She seems nice but I could never really get into her stuff. The videos are just too long, I have the same problem with VolenCK but at least Istebrak paints and tries to explain what she's doing. Not a huge fan of her work either, the faces look alright but she never really does anything else, just floating rendered faces.

She couldn't make it as an artist so she became a teacher. She can't do much else other than grayscale studies. She doesn't want to move on to color because she says she has to master grayscale first. Guess that's why she failed as an artist. lol

AHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHHAA

FYI she didn't draw the lineart/original picture on the left, its from another artist on deviantart (which she credits in the beginning by showing the watermark on the top right before she ruins it with her garbage colors).

i use to take her word as gospel but i found out that doing nothing but gray scale portraits and form studies only gets you so far. Seems shes kinda stuck in her comfort zone. I'll be it, she is a much better artist then me but still.

Same reason I stopped watching her. I mean I did learn a lot. But my bodies are severly lacking, and she isn't helping with that.

I'm still grateful tho.

>> No.3960384

its not really a comfort zone thing. ive been following istebrak since like 2013 back on livestream.com and she occasionally shows personal works she trashes which are amazing

i know ic likes to shit on her cus she makes you feel bad about yourself but at the end of the day shes her own worst critic. shes always studying but to think she cant paint really shows you dont really watch or follow her

this is what is called learning values

idiots here are such /begs/ that they can't comprehend why you would want to have a strong understanding of values first in order to apply it to color, because its much harder to tell if you're doing it right with paint and color alone

>strong understanding of values first in order to apply it to color
It's obvious that you should know your values before color. What Istebrak suggests is that you should be a "master" at values before even touching color. There's the difference. She recommends for her students to not even try color until they reach some arbitrary level of mastery. But there is no mastering values as it is a continuous learning experience. Learning color also aids in understanding of values and vice versa. So there is no reason for her to needlessly hinder progress just to try to master something that can't be mastered.

She's very anal-retentive about this and actively discourages people from trying color at all which is why it's worth mentioning. Also if you look at her own art, it shows that she's stuck in grinding fundamentals stage and is afraid to expand her work.

It's not like her form studies are good either, she never touches on value range, half to black rule or some advanced lighting theory. She just guesses what value each plane is, making same mistakes over and over.

Very frustrating for a compulsive autist like me.

>> No.3966310

That's fair. You can definitely hinder yourself if you do not experiment with different mediums especially using color. Its possible that she is stuck in a comfort zone. My point was just that she's right to an extent you need to have a good grasp of values to an extent before you add the extra dimension of color ontop of it... Just because adding color complicates things in so many different ways including how you perceive the values themselves depending on your color choices.
