Redline still has yet to be topped for me. No other movie has made my heart race like Redline, the shear fucking force behind every frame is absolutely stunning. It's the same feeling I get when doing gestures, just raw emotion.

The whole movie is basically a love letter to animation and everything it stands for.

on the one hand i wanna say patlabor 2 or parasite dolls, but that new shit ... i prefer the old school. probably the objecively best of the best is still akira, but ill stand by shit like genocyber, oedo 808, goku midnight eye, urotsukidoji, and wicked city. so far in life those are my absolute jams.

I wouldn't say that it has the best "animation" in terms of how everything is moving, due to the budget the animation is fairly limited and they used a lot of stills. However, this is probably one of the most emotionally pungent animated movies ever made, certainly one of the most artful, and being able to have the effect that it does with it's limited resources is a crazy impressive feat. Even with the limited animation everything is drawn so well, every shot composed so beautifully, a litany of styles all weaved together effortlessly with art that is at once gentle and delicate but also vicious and cruel. Without a doubt one of the best animated movies of all time and definitely one of my favorites.
