3921586 No.3921586 [Reply] [Original]

For those of you guys with a following on social media, do you reply to all comments on your post or your friends only? Is it a good idea to reply to people as much as possible or is liking a post alone enough? Personally I wouldn't mind replying to people who shows appreciation to my work but I afraid it would get a bit overwhelming to reply to everyone for every posts.

Put a like to nice compliments, reply if anyone asks questions.
If anyone sends you a DM with compliments thank them, if they ask to talk/become friends tell them kindly that you don't have the time to.
If you receive a random insult on your art don't reply, ESPECIALLY if it's someone with "MAP" on their profile (twitter is filled with these pedos istigating artists to respond so they can spam/dogpile you)
Try not to reply with images that aren't art, people want to browse your gallery and memes are annoying

What do you guys do when people ask for "art trades" or free drawings in general? I had some people, hopefully kids, start really difficult conversations with me where they started showing me bizarre stuff for some reason and I legitimately had no idea how to answer without offending them

The way it works is:
One of them insults you for no reason. When you respond, an organized group of them comes to defend their fellow pedo. You get spammed every day, for hours and hours, and the only way to get rid of them is to say "I don't have anything against MAPs". They think having a popular artist normalize them will help them out. It's insane, I know. Thank the tumblr disaster for having twitter filled with these fuckers now.

>What do you guys do when people ask for "art trades" or free drawings in general? I had some people, hopefully kids, start really difficult conversations with me where they started showing me bizarre stuff for some reason and I legitimately had no idea how to answer without offending them
I tend to tell them the truth aka "I have no time to do free art". That's the nicest way to deal with it. If they insist just mute them, the mute tool is wonderful

Did anyone else have the problem of following too many people when they started their account (I use my account for mainly fanart)? There's a few people I followed because I thought they would follow me back but they never did. I could just unfollow them but it would be awkward because they on occasion still RT/like my art sometimes.

Sometimes I feel like I want to completely delete my account and start fresh in a new fandom. Or even better don't create a new account and just focus on improving in my art. Then when the newest trendy anime starts I would be at a decent skill level to start actually gaining followers. I feel "stuck" right now in regards to my account growth.

What's with you guys and being such push overs all the time to random people on Twitter and crap? I understand avoiding conflict by not letting your views slip and such, but if someone online actually actively seeks conflict against you, you should tell them to fuck off and block them. If they seriously summon their personal army on you, that's just free publicity anyway, even if it's bad. It might even work in your benefit even more because people that antagonize those types will view you as an ally, and you can build up a like-minded fanbase

I do fan art and I got my fair share of followers so I'd like to share some of my opinion on followers when doing fan art.

Generally it's a good idea to share your work to where people in the fandom hang out so they could notice your work instead of having it getting buried by tons of other post on social media. Once you get a number of followers who share your work often the snowball will starts to roll itself. Reddit works absolutely great for me and I'm grateful for that, although certain subs are less lenient towards self-advertising so watch out for that.

Also one thing I've noticed is that not all fandoms are created equal, fandom that are filled with good art will generally pay less attention to newer work in general. Look at One Punch Man for example, people in that fandom are more excited towards Murata's own art and memes/jokes so they don't nearly have the same amount of passion for other artist's work.

I don't have much experience with original art (i.e work that doesn't belong to any existing IP) but I've heard that sharing your work to the right circle works wonder. Say you like to draw cactus for example, you will need to find yourself a cacti-lover community and share your work there.

The takeaway from this is that you should actively share your work with the right community and link it to your social media, instead of posting on social media only and hope for the best.

I put some thought into it and I just can't compete with the stuff that gets posted on Instagram. It's pretty much like ArtStation with top tier professionals making professionally shot and edited video timelapses of photorealistic artwork. How the fuck do these people produce portfolio tier pieces every other day? You go in the discover section and every single thing is a portfolio piece. I can make a thing on this level maybe every few months.
If you exclude the fanart and occasional sjw thing the quality bar is set so high.

This just sounds to me like a tactic to coerce people to make a false confession. As in those accounts don't need to be actual pedophiles, but might as well just be a mob trying to get whoever they dislike to say ''I am for pedophiles'' so they can switch to their moral outcry accounts later to destroy the person. Like gathering ammo.

A group of cultists surrounds you and tortures you until you agree to join them, and then they reveal they were part of the inquisition and burn you at the stake for heresy. A favorite tactic of communists, incidentally

Instagram is a lot more competitive in terms of quality. The level of art is like artstation and the top pros are always the first suggestions so it's really hard to stand out with Twitter memes. Twitter is a lot lower quality and centered on trends and chitchat so it's much more important to be a sjw or talk about the latest current thing than posting good art because Twitter feeds are mostly text anyway. Also the compression is really shit, I can't believe how mangled my Instagram pics came out on Twitter.

These posts don't clog my feed or anything, but I periodically prune everything that isn't my art or people directly @ing me in a conversation, so you only get my art and the conversations I have with people who comment on my art when you scroll down.
Is this pruning habit bad or annoying? I don't think anybody looks at your old feed a week later or cares about the meme you posted. When I see an artist I like I just want to see his art so it makes sense to me to remove all unnecessary posts when they're past their relevance.
