I understand after Tumblr went to shit that loads of people were looking for an alternative, but why Twitter? It's more than a platform for uploading art so it's easier to get followers, but you can't really have a gallery unless you link your profile to another website. If somebody misses your post, they either have to scroll all the way back or just not know it exists. I also never really understood how people gained followers on Twitter unless they were already well known, as it doesn't seem like people really check out tags unless they're trending. Maybe it's just that I don't know how Twitter works

I think SFW artists are all completely fucked, even more fucked that they were before. The only new art platforms that will become popular will be centered on porn with a "no rules" policy because that's the only thing people find limiting about the current platforms.
So if you are a SFW artist you won't make an account on these platforms because you'd just be a drop of water in an ocean of piss. Tumblr was the last "blogging" platform left (excluding Wordpress, but Wordpress is not connected lika a social media) and by dying it dragged the idea of an art blog where you'd just land on a page and look at the art more carefully, interact on a deeper level, have a long lasting timeline that doesn't become useless in a couple hours, all six feet under.
No platform will be able to surpass Instagram or Twitter in terms of userbase or reach, so SFW will stay there and there will never be a real need for a blogging platform because blogging is dead. ArtStation will stay the only "pro" art website, a platform for comics or smaller artists will never happen because there's too little demand.
Art is going to get fucking ugly in a very short time, it will be even more uniform and soulless than it is right now.

What about Mastodon? Sure it has a way lower user base but it seems nice and drama-free

If you are someone really important I can understand, but why some small time literally who pay for a website when people will have to pass through social media to see it anyway?

No. It is shit. However, it's the best thing out there right now for most artists.

So you have complete control to better organize and display your art how you like than on twitter's long ass infinite loading timeline, although you're completely right about people passing through social media anyway.

Have you not heard of webtoon? I see ads for it all the time

No, the compression is ass.
That being said, for the love of all the religious deities use the damn moments feature or a Tumblr so I don’t have to look through your retweet filled mess to find art.

Oh I meant like a portfolio thing. But you are completely right, a comic artist should just make a comic on one of these platforms.

Sadly Twitter is the only big relevant social media site left and I fucking hate it. The layout is shit, the character limit is retarded and it has by far the most users with the mental maturity of children. There's nothing left.
I tried Reddit but nobody ever fucking says anything interesting over there, the Karma system is gay and it's almost as bad.

At least on reddit you don't need an initial fanbase and bonus points if you draw some specific fanart of a popular game/show/etc., post it to that specific and thriving subreddit and ONLY POST LINKS TO YOUR BLOG(instagram/twitter).
Basically reddit for fanbase growth, and social media for a gallery/blog

>> No.3913066

Hmm, well l think twitter is fine

Just interact with people a lot and don't be afraid to unfollow people, definitely an easy way to kickstart your art career if you're smart

reddit only works if you make absolute bottom of the barrel normie art or fanart

Just save your image on a hard drive when you post in on the internet lmao. Social media goes down all the ti e.

Does anyone else unfollow artists (especially japanese artists) a lot when it's seems like they only blog post about food/gatcha/other shit more than actually post any art.

Also I suggest you guys take advantage of lists on Twitter more. It's nice when you don't want to follow an artist (like for example porn artists you don't want to pop up on your timeline, artists who post irregularly, etc) but still want to keep up with their work. It's also good if you want to make collections of Twitter account that you use for reference pics.

Dude back that shit up on Drive, you have a Google account. If there's something I have learned is that technology tends to die suddenly for no reason.
