>whoa anon your art is soo goood!
>you're one of my favorite artists
>hey can we be friends :3

Do you let normies get close to you? How do you deal with the whole art-friend stigma

>> No.3905805

I haven't spoken to a real human being (aside from shit like bus drivers and cashiers) in over 2 years now

I'm always wary because these fuckers have no way of accurately assessing skill and you know very well how far you have to go before even being competent, but if you try to explain they will just think you have no confidence or lack self esteem.

Just take the compliment with a smile and shut your mouth, you can have a serious conversation with anyone who actually knows their shit and can critique properly. Besides if someone likes your stuff that's fine, even if you're being complimented purely out of politeness that's fine. You can be platonic friends with anyone, they might be helpful to you. Just see it as a pat on the back for your progress so far. Try to ignore it when people have misconceptions like ''you're so creative so obviously you can do my interior decoration/garnish the food/draw [subject you have never drawn before] in [medium you have never used]''. Keep your talk short and don't go on diatribes

Same. Just started up socials after a long time and the thought of interacting with others without being able to call them out if they're faggots makes we want to vomit.
Nowadays, you gotta go on full turbosociopath if you want to make it.

The way I write and express myself makes them understand pretty soon that I'm not that social person that'll befriend anyone and they can't ask me for free shit cause I'll just say I won't do it and I don't care if you don't like it.

and even my clients somehow understand that I'll do it my way and I'll take my time and I prefer not getting paid at all than doing a job their way

>> No.3906553

In general, no. It's hard to mesh with people who don't speak your language. I know I'm probably their first point of contact with an artist and I do my best to represent everyone on their behalf by being the self flagellating weirdo that I am so they never say stupid things to artists ever again.

I dunno why this is always the fucking case.

>Not just having all your friends be creative people so you can do collabs on all sorts of shit like music and art
>Not having to worry about hurting each other's feelings because you genuinely respect each other's opinions and skills in a particular medium, and they understand the point of critiques

Feels great bros.

I have trust issues so the only ones I let close are usually also art people, but even then, my trust in them isn't even 10%

btw this is an imaginary situation. I do t really have any friends.

That's pretty much how I've made 90% of my art friends. But being able to also draw keeps it interesting. We can do trades and stuff.

where to begin

>> No.3908107

We all just grew up together doing creative shit.
We've always been a tight knit group that has fun making stuff, playing music, and shit like that. We used to make little movies for fun and laughs. Someone was in charge of music, another in charge of the camera, another made the "cover" or did sets and stuff. We all kind of fell into our own things, but we all have overlapping hobbies and stuff.

It's not like I went to a gallery to some weirdo and asked to be friends.
