Maybe he would be interested in helping you share the Totoro book. Not that I know him or how often he logs in, I only spoke to him once but he seemed alright.

If you don't have an account there's a guide to joining here:

And if I'm being honest, this book was printed with the intention of being rare so at least I can rest assured that the majority of copies are being cared for by their owners, and it'll probably be fine. I just have a worrisome nature, especially since this book is the star of my personal collection.

I have one of her books, Lessons in Classical Drawing, and there's a lot you can learn from them to draw realistically. But be warned she seems to be more into the "sight-size" method than the construction approach, which lends itself more to drawing/painting a model 100% accurately rather than building figures in a composition from imagination.

I agree with this anon.

I activey practice "Try Before You Buy" piracy. Because there are genuine artists out there that earned my support and would continue to see them thrive independently. As Artists, anybody should be sympathetic to that right off the bat.

Unlike others, I always think about the poor kid who can't afford physical books in some other country but is a big fan of a certain persons work. Piracy increases access, accessibility and promotes innovation. It's up to the pirate to make the choice to support.

Just like how any other person in the Eastern or the Western country gets access to Japanese books otherwise physically or financially unobtainable.

Be ethical about it like me, or dont. At the end of the day, piracy is just a form of philanthropy.

>TL;DR support your fav artists , or don't, piracy helps the world go round baby

Did you ever have an Atari 2600? As creators of one of the first and most popular home video game systems, Atari went all out, hiring a stable of artists to create some truly fantastic covers for the box art - even if the carts inside never measured up (c'mon, that was all we *had!*).

Tim Lapetino's Art of Atari is a fascinating collection of these, along with detailed notes about the artists, the creative processes at work, and unused alternate versions that could have taken the games in new directions. I *swear* I saw a digital version around here - either PDF or scanned JPG's - but I didn't bother to download it as I have the physical book sitting on the shelf behind me.

I also never realized until decades later that the name of the planet in M.U.L.E. - "Irata" - was "Atari" spelled backwards.

You can apply even the most fundamental perspective technique to even the most advanced topics. People are forgetting that you're supposed to figure stuff out yourself. You could read a perfect explanation with perfect examples and you still wouldn't get it, you would merely have the illusion that you understand it. But the moment you fill in the gaps yourself and it clicks because you used your own intelligence it will stick for a lifetime.

It's not the moment you're reading new information that you're learning, you learn the moment you're applying that information and see exactly what works and what doesn't. You're collecting perspective books and still, there are tons of people who used a single book, even a very basic one and they are better at perspective than you will ever be.

This post spends more time complaining about Mr's lolita complex than actually examining Takashi Murakami's conceptions of art history. Thomas LaMarre summarized superflat's shortcomings in his 2009 book "The Anime Machine" pretty well; pic related. It is (or was) a movement that first and foremost presented a theory of japanese modernity; the problems with that, while acknowledged in academic circles, are often understated in public discourse. Murakami has been producing additional art theory ever since; even addressing those criticisms to a certain degree as well. It's just too bad that none of his exhibition catalogues, art and art theory books have actually seen a digital release. I'd love to read this, for example:

https://store.perrotin.com/en/takashi-murakami-books/10001919-takashi-murakami-vs-nobuo-tsuji-battle-royale-japanese-art-history-2900100029032.html

he's completely right. if you want deeper understanding of perspective beyond the basics that have been understood and passed to students for hundreds of years, the best way is to just draw a lot and pay attention to the world around you.
many artists do have a lot of personal ideas and observations about perspective drawing, but it would be impossible to communicate these ideas if you haven't observed the principles for yourself, first - at which point it is meaningless to communicate the ideas.

Cool! That's actually a part of a trilogy of books following the original Superflat exhibition. There's the exhibition catalogue (pic related), "Little Boy" where Murakami delves into the theory of, and then the "Summon Monsters?" book where he goes more into depth on the process of making it all. Murakami does watch and direct anime, though. He renamed the Hiropon Factory to Kaikai Kiki at the turn of the millennium and produced a handful of "kaikai & kiki" animated shorts in the mid-00s. He's operated an animation studio ever since, and has struggled through this decade to get it off the ground. They did VFX for Jellyfish Eyes (which like most otaku attempts at live action film and television, flopped hard), and now they've been rebranded as Studio PONCOTAN (poncotan.jp), who've been been working on 6 Hearts Princess these past couple years. I'm sure there are old DVD copies of Murakami's earliest attempts at anime available on Mandarake; I'd love to see proper rips of them at some point. The fact Jellyfish Eyes was the one to get acquired by the Criterion Collection is just pathetic.

You don't necessarily need to outsource for physical books, you can use camscanner and other apps as long as you're not desperate for perfection. I'd rather have something not-perfect quality over nothing. And also keep in mind outsources remove the spine so if you're not comfortable altering your book apps are going to be your best option.

I don't actually know much about Mr. to be quite honest; I've been more focused on BOME due to my interest in gunpla and figurines (hence why I ordered his book), the fact he's apparently the one responsible for the original Superflat exhibition's sculptures. Also there's even less public info on him; as for Mr., it looks like he has two noteworthy artbooks:

https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4939148114/
https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4939148432/

You can order them both using a proxy service like Tenso/Buyee; they're all sold out on Mandarake, unfortunately. You might also be interested in Aya Takano's work, though.

thanks man! he's got a couple things available through a western gallery, but if the proxy doesn't fuck me then these would definitely be cheaper.

Yeah, he seems like it. I will make sure to buy the Dragon's Lair film if it comes out to pay him back for being unable to back it.

Any reference aggregate book?
i wanna everything, coats, anatomy, poses, shoes etc

>> No.3926399

>>3926122
Frankly I don't think such a single book exists, if it did it would be fucking massive. Go to the OP, grab the reference books it has already, and then come back and ask about what stuff you still need.

I think Google Image is all you need. It's well organized and easy to access. Or Pinterest.
