There's no reason to replace the original tan, nor is anyone suggesting to. A lot of different board cultures change on the surface, but rather than cut out the original, some prefer to simply add a new tan to representation to the new changes. For example /co/lette. She was simply a representation of every flavor of the month fetish that /co/ had at the time and since has taken a personality all her own. In contrast you have /r9k/ who decided to change their Sad Robot to a FUCKING WOJACK.
Also take the two new tans for /wsr/ and /r/ respectively. One a generic touhu design and another... a thing.
Want to champion the old d/ic/k? Then make more content using old design.
Want to change the current gestalt of /ic/? Be the change you want to see in the world.
