I started exercising regularly 11 days ago specifically for improving my art, and of course other problems I have. So, I have a question for those of you who have started exercising. Have you seen any significant improvements, changes in mindset, leaps in self-discipline, etc. as a result of going to the gym?

I'll go regardless because of the other benefits, but more reasons to wouldn't hurt my drive. I don't know why but I've been eager to get back to the gym each time I've gone. I want to discuss exactly what the benefits are

I felt better, more happier, and I felt like I could fly in air. Now that I became lazy, I’m stuck on my feet. Mind was more clear as well.

just sit straight and dont squish the damn pencil and you will be fine, also remember to take small breaks or you will burnt out.

More energy and focus most days. Gives me time to think and see shit in the case of running.

As long as you're not an obese lard fatfuck it doesn't really matter. Plenty of amazing skinny artists. Muscle definitely helps for going long periods without rest though.

Doesn't really matter as long as you're not a fatty. Lots of good skinnier artists. However I'm sure muscle def could help.

the improve in energy and focus is real, i suggest is anyone want to exercise focus on muscle, and the body in general, legs, back, arms, because for all the time that one spends sitting, the lack of activity reduces the musculature, which ends in a worse quality of life as we get older, it is best to gain muscle to contrast the downtime in which we are sitting drawing, especially in the legs. Develop muscles in the back to maintain good posture, and varied arm exercises to maintain the elasticity of muscles and ligaments, and always have them ready to draw and avoid pain issues.

It is more efficient than doing cardio, because the cardio in the long run is burning fat and nothing else, it means that if you only do that and you continue sitting as always drawing, you will end up with a lower musculature than the average person. old the quality of life will be much worse

Cardio is unfortunately where all the art gains are. There's thinking and cortisol and endorphins. You get spiritual on a long run.

Honestly going for weekly hikes can be great for your creativity because you always tend to start thinking a lot more freely.

I want to become fit, but damn, it's hard separating the genuine desire for fitness from self hating tendencies
Some of the drive is just DESPISING myself and my body so much that I want to change it, not healthy

That’s fine, whatever it takes. In fact, if you’re fat, it’s morally correct to hate yourself until you change.

It helps, I don't go to the gym but doing calisthenics has helped me with my overall mood and posture when drawing. Having a fit body is almost essential in my books anyway.
Trying to be /fitlit/+/ic/ here.

This, I used to be a long distance runner and not only does the activity clear your head and make you feel good (from becoming fitter and the pride of doing it), during longer runs it's like you're meditating or something because you have nothing to do but think, look around and pay attention to your moving body.

A year after starting, on days where I really pushed it and ran 20km in preparation for a half marathon, eventually I got into such a stable running rhythm and entered a mental state where I could vividly imagine things. Maybe the exhaustion also contributes to this but as has been said before when you work your body that hard your brain releases endorphins and you feel great despite the strain

I pay more attention to musculature and have a basic knowledge of it
its easier to schedule time in studio when youre already scheduling time to exercise
I also ultimately ended up moving from painting to sculpture because physicality has taken a much bigger role in my life

i'm trying to get better at incorporating mini bursts of exercise throughout the day to offset the sedentary nature of drawing for long hours. i already do strength training but it feels like that isn't enough to truly mitigate the damage done by such long periods of practically zero exertion.
got an exercise bike & right now i'm trying to come up with a good routine that can be an efficient means of maintaining healthy activity levels even during crunch time
this is the current experiment:
>stretch after waking up and before bed; do hand warmups
>5 minutes of steady state cardio, plyometrics or stretching after every 30 minutes of drawing
>2 longer periods of biking i.e; the equivalent of riding to and from work every day
>hiit days 3 times a week
>skateboarding whenever there's free time

currently recovering from an injury so the intensity is a little lower than i'd prefer. but even doing short bursts of easy exercise has had a noticeable effect on energy levels and focus. will doing so much aerobic shit throughout the week have a negative impact on gains?
also what are your routines fags?
>>3879058
bdd is a real motherfucker, the best thing you can do ime is to create objective metrics to measure yourself instead of relying on your dysfunctional self perception. stuff like weight, bodyfat percentage & strength/skill gains are much easier to reliably track and feel good about

try to become addicted to progression and the process of improving yourself.

Working out in one way or another my whole life, but gotten really hardcore getting beefy workouts about 3 or 4 years ago.

Benefits are very simple, being /fit/ is good in every single way. It will improve your mood, how you feel. people who are fit usually complain less about general headaches, stomachaches, and shitty feeling throughout the day, you look more attractive and you live longer.

This is very nice for an artist, not only because of all the aforementioned reasons, but also because it's a very good contrast to a profession surrounding sitting a lot.

As for your art, exercising is basically taking care of the machine that you use to draw. just like you want to have nice pencils nice paper, and nice colors, you will feel better having a nice drawing machine.

One really nice benefit from being buff is being able to look in the mirror and use yourself as reference

It's really nice to clear your head too.

The one thing I'd like to say is, for work like drawing, I'm not the biggest fan of gyms. I think more stimuly spread throught the day is healthier, and I saw much more results when I stopped doing workout all at once once a day, and went several times a day down for pushups and sit ups.

I think for an artist the best way to start developing your muscles are to go down for a few sets of push ups situps and squats every set amount of time ( half hour, hour, 2 hours). This was what worked for me, and different people work in different ways, so make sure you do what works best for you and don't be afraid to ask a pro.

That's pretty much it. I guess it can help your range of motion and subtlety when it comes to art, but I think the biggest benefits from it are everything else I mentioned. godspeed in your art ripped journey my dude.

I used to have a terrible sleep schedule and was always sad all the time but after I started running every day I can go to sleep at a normal time and wake up before 10 am. This isn’t a purely psychological thing either, I’m physically too exhausted to stay awake 20+ hours like I used to. I’ve also started eating better because shit food gives me shit energy and messes up my runs. Now that my day is more regimented I can actually draw at a set time instead of delaying it every hour until I get real sad, give up and try again tomorrow. The added benefit of going out into the sun is also a plus. Exercise is pretty great, I give it a 10/10, would recommend.
