Imagine this if you will.

> you need to study anatomy anon
> *spends 5 years studying anatomy in detail*
> congratulations anon, you know so much about the human body, you can finally draw the figure any way you want from imagination!
> now draw me a helicopter
> bu-but I never studied helicopter anatomy!
> I'll give you $1000 to draw me a helicopter
> o-okay...
> helicopter looks like shit, you've never studied helicopters, your whole life is a lie

How to avoid this? Easy, learn to deconstruct objects faster, not spend years learning facts about them.

If you want to know something about anatomy, look in the fucking mirror anon.

>5 years
I don't think so. Pick up Anatomy for Sculptors, it's a straight forward book with around 250 pages.
>If you want to know something about anatomy, look in the fucking mirror anon.
If you actually want to make things efficiently, this isn't the right way as you'll be repeating the same things over and over. You'll get used to it with time though I guess. Also, as far as I understand, you don't exactly need to study all the muscles if you're not drawing muscular people all the time or aren't a fan of drawing them- just understand the forms and how they move. A lot of artists online do this I think.

Practice deconstructing simple objects and work your way up. Practice doing this faster and faster. Don't copy. Use Vilppu's method of analyzing instead of copying, never copy anything, always analyze and change it up. What you practice is what you become.

For obvious reasons you'll be drawing living bodies way more than helicopters, so for helicopters you will just use a bit of reference and you can draw them just fine with perspective and a bit of patience. If you draw a human being where something as little as the pinky toenail is off people will notice.
If you draw 10 helicopters and you understand the size relationship of the cockpit and the hull, the general shapes of it and things like the curvature of the blades, you can draw a decent helicopter. You need way more than 10 bodies to draw a convincing figure.

That's not how it works, silly. Studies are a tool, not something to mindlessly grind.

Oh no, who would have thought that studying one thing isn't going to make you universally proficient? Learning is a meme after all.

how would that teach me about the bones and landmarks, the tendons and shapes of the muscles and the insertions and origins?

Well, dumbass, you should cut yourself in self-hatred like the rest of us. If you're not willing to risk your body for art, then maybe it isn't for you.
Now get along and go play with some tonka trucks or something, little one.

You don't need to know """anatomy""" for tech or hard surface unless you are trying to rig and animate them. With most mechanical things for drawing it is just "what you see is what you get" and if you can draw basic forms in perspective you can memorize anything after some reference study. After you draw enough tech from reference you can start to invent cars, planes, boats, mechs, robots (with some help from human and animal anatomy which brings me to...)

A better comparison would be animals. You need to know anatomy for animals to understand what the lumps that stretch and shape the skin are. But if you studied human anatomy you would already have a huge advantage.

Human Anatomy can be extrapolated to animal anatomy and both combined allow you to invent any creature.

No degree in art I'm aware of requires 5 years of study in anatomy, or requires being able to draw the figure in any position for graduation.

It's really simple: if you want to draw the human form, you need to study it.

I have a degree in art, and I had to take 3 classes in anatomy - one lecture course, and two studio courses. (Anatomy for Artists, and life drawing and life sculpture). I took more than required, because I enjoyed it. The rest of the hundreds of studio hours I had to complete were spent learning how to do everything else.

How about you stop making up problems and issues nobody ever deals with, because you're too lazy/bad at anatomy? Hmm?

Only brainlets focus on anatomy exclusively. You have to learn everything. Architecture, anatomy of animals, human anatomy, vehicles, clothing, decorative elements, furniture.

>> No.3875791

>>3875783
nobody has to learn everything
if your goal is to be a portrait artist, or character artist, or animator you will need different things than specializing in landscapes and environments, etc.

That's nice if you wanna be an artistlet. Real niggas learn as much as possible so they can experience as much as possible and use everything they know in the specific field they want to focus on.

Retard OP. Extremely few artists need to spend 5 years studying anatomy in detail, it's a strawman.

You learn the level of anatomy that you feel like learning, or need to realize your vision.

If you know how to draw humans well, then everything else is good. Just reference heavily for the helicopter, as long as you can create those strokes, and is good at referencing you’ll do fine.
