Bridgman is great if you're not turned off by the scribbly drawings. I also failed Loomis but for some reason Bridgman clicked. Loomis actually learned from Bridgman, and so did Frazetta.

Try again.
If you can't even do Loomis what hope do you have.

>> No.3866330

In what way did you "Fail" though?

By explaining what you feel you can't do and where you started, we can just diagnose your problem.

You might have skipped to a more appealing book (Like going to Figure Drawing instead of checking out the short, goofy Fun With first) or don't understand the perspective screeds.

Obviously Michael Hampton is a good alternative, but he's very perspective heavy too.

Bridgman is form and perspective with the disadvantage of you having to bring your own experience into the mix. He doesn't touch on it. Since his books are compiled notes and sketches, not actual self authored books.

So.

I mean, Proko has a figure drawing series that could help as a crash course to you understanding.

All depends on what you don't get.

Bridgman is great if you understand the anatomy. His drawing style is so focussed on expression that it's hard for the untrained eye to make sense of the shapes he uses. Lacking that understanding will most likely misdirect you more than it does good.
It's not beginner material.

Loomis is a meme for r*dditors to feel “deep” for using old shit
just google construction and perspective, it’s the same damn thing but you’ll find more modern resources to help you understand better

Find the end goal you want to become and try to draw. Then compare your drawing to theirs then see what you need to do to get there.

How to draw, draw a box, perspective the easy way, dynamic bible, alphonso dunn books, hampton, bridgman, proko.

Im not sure why everyone has a hard-on for learning from loomis. I read the books and honestly they're kinda just mediocre to be honest.

I made it halfway through fun with a pencil before tossing it and just reading how to draw by scott robertson and hampton. I even picked stuff up from other sources like looking at bridgman and krenz studies to see how they applied stuff. Also stuff that's stuff that's not even related to drawing helped out like youtube videos about painting and shit (see marco bucci).

I don't want to jump on lOoMiS IES jUsT a mAymAy bandwagon but i also don't want to give people the impression that's the only legitimate way of learning stuff.

Just grind a bit, and try flexing your creative muscles once in a while and you'll do alright.

Who the fuck wants to draw boomer-ass blooks anyway? They look disgusting. In the boomer head of a Loomis, he thought they look funny. I say fuck Loomis. WE NEED a book which deconstructs drawings of a goth gfs with big boobies. This way, we will learn much faster.

I have that book and the starting point for it is people with medium level skill. He said he was going to skip over fundies and jump straight into big boobs and fat assed. It's also a good description of his working process. But it won't teach you to draw if you don't know anything at all, you must have some ability to be able to take full advantage of the book.

Did you remember to learn perspective first, so that you could actually place figures in scene without guessing?
