>> No.3860038

>>3859967

It's apart of the basics, however if you're a total beginner, It's going to take a good amount of practice and studying to wrap your mind around using your brain to create, and then draw 3 dimensional shapes on a flat paper or digital canvas. You need to learn Line, Shape, Form, Perspective, Light, Color and Composition. in that order. If you don't you'll spend years floundering, only to learn them by accident.

Start off learning line, shape, and basic form and perspective by reading the /ic/ sticky and Loomis (Fun with a pencil). It's not a meme. It's important and will improve your skill at lineart.
>But muh ugly 1940's cartoons
The artstyle is not important. They're exercises to help you get comfortable with drawing and help you identify basic shapes.

If you get bored of it, put it down for a while and watch these. Then watch the other videos in the channel.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1108B179C158EA69

Watch and practice along side the videos while they play. Visit https://drawabox.com and practice there as well. Whenever you get bored or tired of one source, Go and practice from the other.

After that go back to the sticky and read from the other resources.

Not op, but who would you recommend if one wants to learn to draw from imagination?

>> No.3862043

>>3862032
Not who you were asking, but I'll tell you anyway

Vilppu. He'll teach you how to draw realism and cartoons. His explanations blow and he eats words, so you'll have to watch his lessons several times and take notes before you understand them.
But you'll have to return to his lessons once in a while after you've gained new perspective on drawing. Only this way you can actually learn things properly.

Do this: get his Drawing Manual video series and watch it once. Take notes, draw, what have you. Then forget about it for some months and meanwhile get your education somewhere else - books, video lessons, youtube, whatever. Try to filter everything you learn through what you learned from Vilppu. Then after several months of studying random material, watch Vilppu again, and I promise you you'll gain tons of new insight.

I also strongly recommend all figure drawing books that deal with 3d construction with boxes and cylinders. Also, most Japanese anime drawing books that you can find here on /ic/.
Just continue taking notes and compare information, and you'll be fine.

You might be a brainlet then, Proko is prob the best resource around to learn anatomy from, especially if youre interested in construction drawing from imagination instead of relying on reference, since thats a heavy focus of his anatomy courses - simplying shit into cylinders and boxes until you can draw it from your head from any angle.

Obviously, whats your point? Proko is just nicely packed Watts+Loomis+Vilppu, with all the information recycled and formed into a more accessible 2019 format with good references and 3d models.

>> No.3862091

>>3862085
>watts
That's a problem. Students of watts spend way too long for years going back to the same classes again and again chasing this "mastery" dream.

I feel like it's more information than necessary to get you going? It's a great resource...to spend the rest of your life mastering over time. But a beginner trap to think you need to master every concept in proko or "you're just a brainlet if you can't figure it out."

I'll definitely keep that studying method in mind when I properly tackle Vilppu. I've only seen his gesture drawing vids on youtube so far. Tiner sounds pretty straightforward from what I've searched online, never heard of him until now.

Great advice. I appreciate it just passing through

Gotta say what makes me kinda laugh about Vilppu is that I have a tick against hearing the same and similar phrases over and over.

So I watched his lessons through restraint every time he told me to "... draw... through..."

He always pauses before "draw" and adds another pause before "through". Oh, it drives me ape shit.

Amazing teacher though.
