I mean. He's literally just taking a bunch of photos, combining them and pressing a button in Topaz to generate this crap. It's something I could teach pretty much anyone to do in a couple of hours. I'm not saying that there's anything inherently wrong with this but it's not really a very good workflow for any kind of professional work that requires design and it's not very good for illustration because a lot of professional art directors can see what he's doing + he needs to own the rights to the original photos.

Fun experiment though but personally I prefer stuff that has a little more effort put in but hey, that's just me...

I know. I photos and even 3D if I have a job to do. There's no problem with that. That's why I said it wasn't inherently wrong. Art directors do care about things like design and if you're relying on photos for everything you're not going to do a very good job.

"Can you turn his head about 40 degrees to the left?"

"Uhh... Yeah. Wait. I just gotta google another head for another 45 minutes."

"Could you do it so that the eye level is 5 feet higher"

"Uhh... No."

Now, if you want to call this stuff "illustration" I can't really say you're wrong but I don't think it's generally a good idea to take somebody else's work and call it "MuH iLlUsTrAtIoN" which this guy isn't doing but he's still trying to pass this off as his own art here which I find slightly problematic.

Again, I don't know 'why' this guy is doing this so what ever. Last time someone pointed it out he said he was wondering if he could "fool anyone". If he was actually combining images to create some new design ideas it might be interesting but just taking a bunch of photos of random food and Cut/Pasting eyes on them... I just don't get it.

So there you go. Artwork and Critique.

Yeah. I know, I actually said it in my post. I'm not angry or anything. Just confused as to why someone would keep posting when he already got called out on his experiment. I'm only saying this because this guy just keeps posting this work and it's super obvious that his input into the final result is pretty close to 0%. Anybody's free to do anything, of course, but I don't know if trying to pass your crude, low effort image manipulations off as illustrations is a worthwhile endeavor or something that should be encouraged on this forum. I'm actually the guy who's (low-key) calling the other guy out here but I think you're pointing the blame on the wrong part of the pipeline. If "Fucking fast what ever" is what studios want and you want to work on video games or movies that's what you're gonna have to be or somebody else is going to get the job. It's unfortunate but it's not really the fault of the artists.

Also, where would you draw the line? Using 3D? Using photos? Using a computer? Using reference? Not just using your own blood and a bunch of sticks?

I don't know why you scribble over your drawings but if you absolutely have to do it then make sure its on a separate layer that can be covered up. As it stands I think that your painting could do well without any lines if you just added some hue variation, hardened some edges and softened some others (the hair would be a good place to experiment with that)

Can I have a critique please?

Is the pic too saturated?

>> No.3865129

I thought it looked a little weird. I don't know if these are supposed to be some characters from games or what ever but I think that a simple thing that might help would we to just flip the image horizontally. Western viewers tend to start looking for faces on the left side first. Anyways, I think this is kind of a weird composition. It's like two illustrations stitched together. It's always a bad idea to split your image close to the middle. Better to have a diagonal split for a more dynamic feel. I still like your characters though.

Try starting the study with your canvas really zoomed out, and only using large brushes. It’s also good to have your reference zoomed out too, or if drawing/painting from life, squint at it.

Yes, form. You aren't thinking in 3D. Everything you draw feels flat because you're focused on the outline and not the form. This means your line control is pretty good, but you repeat a lot of symbols rather than drawing through.

>> No.3867918

>>3867903
yes you are
you shape your women the same as each other
your men the same as each other
the kids the same as each other
you're scaling your symbols up or down
that's bad character design, anon

the only thing remotely different on that page is that big robot(?) guy on page 2
and it looks bad and awkward because you're clearly not used to drawing anything other than symbols for people
you can't hide a lack of fundamentals under the guise of simplicity

The horizon line is a bit diagonal, but since you made the vertical distortion mostly affect the left side it just looks like a rotated image, which can be a more interesting angle to see it from.
