does /ic/ have any experience with udemy? i’m /beg/ who hasn’t drawn in quite a while and in serious need of a new hobby. many seemingly accomplished artists offer courses on the basic skills i’m looking for; however, the low prices leave me apprehensive. i have all the tools for both digital and traditional drawing already. just need a new place to start.

You can download fundamentals stuff on cgpeers etc already, throwing money on Udemy courses is just a cope and waste of money

On 1 hand, very few udemy courses are worth your money. That's because most of not all of them are made by armatures and upper intermediates. That doesn't mean you shouldn't learn from them but don't take what they teach you as gospel.

Instead use udemy as a place to just get your feet wet and enjoy the process of drawing. You don't have to get one drawing by learning from old white men on nma.

However of you care to go pro I advise you to avoid udemy because it will fuck you up with bad habits. If you just want to draw for hobby then do as you please.

I expressed myself harshly but that's because I've fallen into the same trap in the past.

It doesn't have to do with that, Udemy stuff is at best repackaged fundamentals on sale!!! (the sale never ends). If you want to spend money, buy a popular fundamentals book or something. If you buy an Udemy course you're probably going to feel good about your shiny new investment for a couple days and then you quit mid-way because you realize it was bad and/or you got bored.

You say you haven't drawn in a while. Draw for a few weeks and then decide once you've got warmed up and know what you want, that's my tip at least

Udemy is fine for everything else but drawing. I've been on the platform back in its early days and was one of the few who had an art course put up on the site. Noooooooooobody was making art courses at the time. It was all "learn to code" spam. So it was very lucrative for me.

But now that coding courses has been saturated, everyone started looking for other avenues. So you have a bunch of trashy 2D courses on the marketplace. Not exactly sure if 3D related content is bad. But 2D is full of late bloomers trying to cash in.

Just don't. You'll only get scripted error-free videos and half-assed explanations. Just find a book, read various source code on git or something, and experiment.

there is literally no reason to use Udemy, it's all trash.
Good beginner resources if you want to spend money:
CGMA (Peter Han is great)
Schoolism is decent
NMA
Ctrl+paint is good

Am I really going to turn out shitty if I continue with this? I thought my drawings looked a lot better after the course than they did when I was reading Loomis.

>> No.3859064

>>3859058
not really, there is always a way back if you seriously want improve for the long run
while I definitely not into Loomis
NMA has one of the best resource when it come to drawing human
but you can experimenting or play around with these course if you like for now to get use to the pen/pencil/tablet
