Can you draw a nice curved line in one or two strokes without making it look jagged and crappy? Your sketch is probably not tight enough or you don't have a clear idea of the final drawing. Generally speaking the tighter your base drawing the better your inks will be. Spend more time on your sketch, spend more time on your inks, do NOT draw a line unless you are absolutely comfortable that you'll make it nicely, rotate the sheet or canvas always. It's really just about practice and making confident strokes from the right position.

I would really consider doing personal work while you grind fundies, and lose your ego. You realize it takes a while to find something worth saying so might as well start now? In my experience, this is because your sketch is very messy and you think it looks good, in your head. You're tricking yourself that somewhere in there is a good drawing, so when you ink it tight it falls apart. This thing goes away when you learn to use descriptive strokes and you know exactly what you're doing.
Case two is that you're simply not good at inking and you need to practice more. Watch mangaka like Murata, they are amazing inkers.
Case three, you simply don't like clean drawings, and prefer loose art instead. There are some drawings that work better as a sketch, so I don't ink them.
