**If you make good copies of anime *properly*, you will be able to draw good anime. If you make bad copies of anime or bad anime styled drawings from photos, you will get better at drawing bad anime. Please think carefully about how you are studying.**

This is the thread for:

1. Posting your anime studies:
>Copy exactly but don’t do it aimlessly. Integrate drawing concepts (construction, color theory, tracing, etc.) into your studies in order to pull information from the reference (anime art, figurines, tutorials) that you can later use for your original work.
>Do a single study multiple times to ensure you address all of your mistakes and memorize the correct process in your head. Attempt drawing it from memory as well.
>You will only be able to effectively deviate from your reference after doing exact copy studies accurately and consistently.
2. General anime style discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Keep most of your personal works for /alt/ or the other critique threads. Here we should be drawing copies from good references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

>learn nothing
then you are not doing it right. when I started tracing Ive learn small new things at first, but Ive notice a difference with my imagination drawing after Ive traced so much I couldnt tell anymore if I am learning something or not. But I already knew how some objects looked like from memory and how to imagine and turn those 3d objects in my head. What tracing helped me with was being able to put those ideas on paper.

I guess tracing its like a multiplier. But multiplying 0 its still 0. So do some life studies anon, also focus on memory drawing more. Look at a pic. draw it from memory without loooking, then compare the 2, see what you missed, added or mistaken, then redraw it from memory. Repeat as many times as you feel the need with multiple objects to form a 3d image of them in your head. You might get stressed when you try to draw an object from an angle where you cant see in the pic all its details, I recommend putting those parts in shadows and focus on what you know. Down the line when you will find another pic with the same object from different angle, you can do the same but this time you will have your old memory so there should be less "shadows" for you.

Rinse and repeat, then come back to tracing.

Get out of this "one true method that will give you powers and all other learning method won't ever teach you anything" because the more you dwell on it, the less you'll be drawing and Just DrawTM is unironically an actually effective way of learning. Of course, assuming you have a working brain that can assess what you're doing and take lessons from it. This whole "good learning method" concept only came to be because people are literally too lazy to put in work and want to find shortcuts to what they do.

It's like putting the cart before the horse. You can't learn anything from doing something you don't even have any idea of, winging it does nothing to your improvement. This is exactly the mindset that people on deviantart who draws the shittiest figure with blazing good rendering. There's a reason why fundies are called fundies, exactly because they are fundamental and necessary to anything you do.

Yes anon it literally is that easy. So many dipshits here just go to 1000 boxes or grind Loomis. Your first year of art should be solely spent on drawing things you like. You need a passion for drawing before you can get good and if you don't have that then mindlessly grinding fundies isn't going to get you anywhere. If you like anime, go draw anime and just have fun with it. Challenge yourself and try new things, but don't just grind fundies. You must enjoy art before you can be good at it.
