It's crazy how much my taste in art changed when I started drawing. Before I loved anime art, nowadays I find the vast majority of it extremely bland to look at

anime stylization is deeply rooted in the easily reproducible manga/anime format; successful mangaka see very little improvement over time, as they typically have *no* time to actually improve whatsoever without first having a mental breakdown and leaving the industry in some manner. it's fun seeing what few artists have been doing to anime as it is looking back at the handful of western artists to actually incorporate paint into their comics, for better and worse.

Ironically he doesn't steal anything. He uses popular scenes and characters in popular poses as reference for his POPular ART. He never claimed that his artworks were originals and never tried to obscure the fact that he draws inspiration from popular culture. In fact this is plain for everyone to see. What he does do is add his own unique style to them and the result is pleasing and quite impressive and this is why people love him.

In japan, the word Tensai which is commonly translated as genius and the word kojima actually uses in the original tweet, doesn't have the same connotations as in English. It's more like talented.
