Really confused about this, how is one supposed to draw with the entire arm on a small tablet? at 100% zoom, drawing requires minimal movement, its much more comfortable with such a distance to draw using the wrist, the only time i can even use my entire arm with broad strokes is when the canvas is at 800% zoom. seems unintuitive and weird, im positive people cant be drawing this way, seems retarded..

am i missing something technique-wise, is this a tablet issue, just need more practice? is it acceptable to draw from the wrist? what do to improve line quality.

most things you draw should be drawn from large shapes to small shapes. When doing large shapes use your entire arm until you start getting to the point where you need to add smaller details and shapes

>he doesn't have small precise arms
i guess you're gonna have to become a sculptor or something

You need a bigger tablet. If your tablet isn't at least as big as a standard piece of printer paper, then your fucking up. I know because my tiny ass wacom intuos makes me zoom I'm constantly. It's easier on paper to move my whole arm but I still don't do it. I don't do a lot of the things these faggots say you should do.

the workspace of my wacom is a little larger than a postcard.
Do you think my problem stems from that?
I have feel like i have much better line control on paper.

says who? i use a diameter of like 6 cm of my tablet. do what feels best.

This. It's like one centered area of the tablet. If you want to draw big, just zoom out or something. Why would you ever be slashing from corner to corner of your screen?

Dont fukin be a retard and draw however you feel convenient. For me I mostly draw with my wrist and elbow on my tablet, since it's small. Traditional shit though, arm whenever i need to long lines. Give some thought to it man, if someone is spouting bullshit, either they're retards or you took something the wrong way. You want to get good at lineart? What is "good lineart"? If it's just clean lines, then try your best to make every mark count. You'll get better at this eventually as your hand-eye coordination improves. Most people do traces over their roughs, it'll probably work for you too.
Also, as an artist you have to choose(or copy) how you represent forms in your drawings, colors, line weights, in EVERYTHING. Think about why you're putting that stroke, what it's purpose serves. If you're copying, find patterns from art that you like, and try to do them yourself. 100% success rate as long as you can draw, and find patterns that makes something appealing to you.

You're not. Drawing with the whole arm is ONE way to draw, and on smaller drawing sizes, completely unnecessary. Drawing from the shoulder is something more appropriate for doing large scale drawing, like figure drawing, on large paper sizes. Drawing from the elbow and wrist are just fine, in the right context.

Don’t listen to these retards claiming you can draw however. The way you adjust your body is important. Make sure the tablet is angled towards your eye and get your fucking elbow off the table. Lock your wrist up and draw from your elbow. Small details don’t need to be done at the wrist only fucking idiots do that.

You simply don't use your whole arm drawing digital. While there is no reason to use the shoulder, drawing from the elbow for longer lines is very beneficial though. It's all about the format. I'd highly recommend to practise drawing on larger formats though - the momentum of your whole body will give you more lively lines/ strokes. Not really necessary if all you do is digital.

I only draw from the wrist when i want to add small detail onto something
can that peter han technique help you with your lineart?

That has nothing to do with OP problem, tard. Did you just want to repeat something you read elsewhere on 4chan to feel like you know something?

>>3820436
Basically what this OP said, the problem is your tablet, and it's always better to have biger tablets if you can afford it. Just don't fall in the trap of thinking that you can't draw if you don't get one, drawing with the entire arm is a cool technique to make big lines in a single stroke, but it isn't something that makes or brakes a digital painting.
My tablet is tiny too and I manage myself pretty okay.

does the type of tablet matter?I have a very small one
