Let's make a list of Artstation cliches
we could even make a bingo game with these

>person holding a stick in an environment
>random lines and greebles
>cutouts in places of structural weakness
>barbarian with armour everywhere but his chest

If I had to take a shot every time I saw this I would have died of cirrhosis. They even make sci-fi helmets that look exactly like that.

That most of OPs points are so general you might as well list such "overused cliches" as people sitting on chairs.

Ironically the only guy worth hiring out of the bunch. You can at least rely on him to make proper floor and wall textures for your game/film. Everyone else on the list gets attention because it's flashy but at the end of the day, you want a reliable person, even if it's more technical and not eye grabbing.

Seems like y'all on artstation need to chill out and stop exclusively consuming sci-fi blockbusters/AAA games for all your entertainment and inspo needs. A lot of these complaints can be boiled into "I hAtE bAd ScIfY!" But... is it all that generic and cheesy crap just rising to the top because it's Familiar and Accessable? Yeah. Why are we tired of it? Because it's not "realistic"? Or because it's overdone to shit and you aren't feeling any world building consistency or unique aesthetic. I think you're missing the forest for the nitpicking trees here.

Concept artists solely exist in order to create assets that are as similar as possible to The Last Big Successful Thing without infringing copyright. They are not artists, they are a legal requirement. That's why everyone copies Wayne Barlowe and the other 5 people that work as actual designers for big movies, it's not a style or influence thing, it's just "hey look I can get as close as possible to this and you won't get sued."

It's not necessarily a good indication on what employers are looking for really. It's artists who like (I mean hitting the actual like button) these artworks, not employers. If you want to know what employers want ask them directly or read an article.
