TRY TO GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

REMEMBER, if you've just started out you work will not be good, it doesn't need to be, just get in to the swing of actually drawing, and learning how to study. Most of all, enjoy it.

"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."

I guess the reason so few anons said anything was, that we're a bit lost as to what to criticise first, at least I am. It's great you're learning anatomy and proportions, but I'd suggest drawing rough poses at first. This way you can learn how and in which directions the joints bend and what looks natural. So far it looks like you took an accurate building kit and just threw the parts together. Looks good, and I see you're making progress, but you have some fundamentals missing before you can work with this kind of anatomy. Keep it up!

Here's the anon from the old thread, sup! I learned that, putting a second layer with sharper, darker shadows on top of the first shadow layer really helps to give the whole image some depth. Do this in areas that are especially "deep", eG the armpits. Also, make sure your shadow is colored, not only a gray version of the skin. Assuming your character is standing in warm light, you should make it more purple-ish. Looks great though, love the eyes!

I don't think rendering is the issue. Its your lack of forms on the back and the arm. The arm looks like it is sideways when really the upper arm should be overlapping the lower arm . as in- if you drew a cylinder for the upper arm coming towards the viewer it would slightly obscure and cover some of the lower arm around the joint. by planning the whole body in advance and checking your proportions before you go into the details. Just be a bit more mindful with your workflow and it should be fine, stop an measure all the proportions. A good idea is to get up and take a quick break clear your head and come back afterwards that can give your mind a fresh look on our work.

Fear is in the imagination. Keep the darkness, light up the eyes- those are usually pretty scary. Having it look almost human with one or two obvious or subtle differences is a good way to go. Like extra long arms or an open mouth in the neck (where some hospital patience have a hole there from some operation usually caused by smoking.) Things like that can help the creep factor. Your update with details is alright, but the bugs are hard to make out and the lips are too solid. Remember when doing dark colors it's mostly about using shadow instead of hard lines. Smooth out those veiny arms and maybe use less thick shadows for her face. If she's a corpse she's not going to have much color difference.
Also try doing her pose, it's kind of uncomfortable opening your mouth like that. But that's no big deal, just me thinking of things. Maybe add more bugs, one crawling on the bed getting close to the camera to show perspective and depth like she's right in your face.
Hope this helps.

feeling isn't necessary anon. look at your ref and look at your image.
I imagine you spend too much time drawing and not looking. You know you're drawing an eye and it's rough location and rough appearance (very important here - rough). Draw a line, re-examine your ref. Start light, readjust lines til they're better before you move on.
Keep it up friend. I recommend reading Keys to Drawing. Just a read, it has some important knowledge that with someone who has spent a good amount of time drawing already, if thought about, can make a real almost immediate difference.

Go to a drawthread and do someone a favor, make their request - usually you can find at least one thing you would enjoy drawing.

Then do it. Don't play games, don't go bullshit on youtube or stare at netflix. Focus, turn on some music related if you want - and draw/paint, whatever.

I do commissions every waking hour I'm not exercising, eating, or sleeping. My vice was endless vidya, I never stopped playing games. I quit my constant vidya and it feels good honestly. I stopped feeling much of an urge a few weeks in and realized I loved just drawing and improving myself.

My advice at least. Just go man, do it.

Sharper lines at the front.

All of your lines are fuzzy and out of focus. The closer something is to the viewer, the more detail it has. So the 3 trees in the front should all have crisp outlines and finer details, as well as the tent. Some of the snow should have more detail and sharper edges as well.

Leaving the background as is will provide seriously good contrast if you can make the front items pop out more.

>> No.3816742

If you are tying to be a bit more realistic make things less flat. The trees are one example. None of the branches are towards or away from the viewer. The foreground needs more depth as well. However, if all the above is the style you want to convey, I think the rendering is fine.

When I was a kid, I used to draw all the time, just for fun. Eventually I got pretty good at drawing super heroes and monsters. My favorite thing to draw though was obviously the female form.

Well, I haven't drawn in over 15 years and just recently I picked up some pencils and paper and I started doodling. I feel like I'm starting from square one. This is certainly NOT like riding a bike.

My current plan is to just draw characters and do exercises out of "how to draw" books every day. It doesn't matter if they're good or bad. I just want to do it every day.

Why do I draw?
What do I like about doing art?

Once just drew to get better at it. But at a certain moment the frustration became so great I had to stop wanting to "draw well" and to just draw how and what i want
The problem is that I no longer have a reason to pick up a pencil anymore. Before I could always say that I'll improve, that I'll be more confident, faster, or at least with more experience. But now, I ask myself, why do I draw?
I do not have any OCs, stories to tell, interest in particular thing to illustrate (people, animals, objects, imagination, real rife, nothing), and to me drawing has became "just another thing to do"

What pushes me forward? idk

How do I git gud at digital colouring? What kind of brushes should I use? How did I manage to get that nice dusty look on these colours? Why is it easier to make simple and stylised characters like this look decent compared to more detailed stuff?

>> No.3817604

Digital brushes don't mean shit if you can't figure your way with a simple pen tool. Brushes are there to make life easier by replicating patterns in a stroke ie dab leaves on a tree instead of individually dotting it with brush.

Simple art can look good because there's not a lot that can go wrong. But simple art can become boring quick.

I used sketchbook pro in the shop and it seemed very simple: you have pens, you can edit them so they make different shapes.

So I feel like I did better at following the Loomis method and making stronger heads but I also know I'm a retard that often thinks he's taking in information when really I'm just repeating the same mistakes.

I'm probably going to go ahead and do 50 more of these and try change up the shape every now and then.

Also I know I chicken scratch a lot but I've gotten to the point that I only really do it during the sketching phase. So I'm improving on that at least.

So while I work on these heads I've also been doing requests for bug people over on /tg/.

How do I get good colouring and is hatching easymode to making something look nice?

This also took me like 4 hours from asking the guy what he wanted, working with him on the design, inking and finally colouring.

1:not bad. Brush strokes make the local color a little chaotic. But plenty of styles do this. Shadow looks a little low in relation to the front shoe. Kinda makes it look like it's floating.2:I've found it's not wise to try and 'fix' things so much as start from a good place to begin with. Especially adding detail or some shit just makes things busier. And the main draw(for me) for stuff like this is its simplicity. That said use your fucking oils.Waste them even. Theyre worth more to you as a shitty painting to learn from than rotting in their tubes.

Help me out Anons, don’t know what to do. Am reading both perspective made easy and keys to drawing, but I’m not sure I am either following the correct book for fundies or just am being a lazy fuck. Also, can hardly enjoy just drawing still objects, had far more fun imitating loomis girls (Drew pic related). What do?

Today was a stupidly productive day, I hope this thread stays alive a bit longer. First off, can I still salvage this drawing? I think the coloring looks too amateurish. It's supposed to have fire and a metallic armor stuff but I mostly laid down flat colors as if it was Photoshop.
Also if you have any critique I welcome it, I didn't notice any flaw and that's bad

Mega comfy and shows definite signs of improvement.

The fireplace/chimney looks a bit flat.

The detailing on the log is excellent though. Obvious what it is and has a really comfy style. Honestly I can almost feel the texture of it on my skin if I think about rubbing it. Good stuff.

The logs under the left window are supposed to go down straight in 1 point perspective, the right window is lower than the one on the left and the inside of the chimney and the right side of it aren't correct in perspective, same for the left side of the couch.
Also you can probably use the brightness, contrast tool in whichever program you're using for a quick fix.
Comfy image btw
