how do you not let criticism of your art discourage you? i dont sperg out about criticism of my art, but i havent posted here in a cpuple months, let alone i havent truly made a drawing or practiced in weeks because i feel its a moot cause

how do you guys do it, how do you live with being shit.
i feel like God hated me before i was born and cursed me with poor skill and poor work ethic

No one gives a shit about by my art enough to critique here or in my galleries

>> No.3807077

you’ve got to think about making a name for yourself and giving it your all, if you really want to make it. but you’ve also got to do things that make you happy, be it studies or original work. and don’t take this board or the crit you get here too seriously.

the only way to fail is to quit, you haven't drawn or practiced in weeks? well guess what? that's not how you improve you whingy little cunt, if you actually want to improve you try your best and push yourself, you have try harder than everyone else to be better than everyone else. Only you can do that.

I'm an adult and I have enough hobbies that I see art as just another activity. I also have enough skills and experience in learning them that I see my work as nothing more than slowly improving "attempts" toward a goal. They are not embodiments of my ego.

It's criticism though. Literally someone telling you what you should be focusing on next. Something, in my opinion, ideally should be done by the artist themselves.

You know your art is shit, so why take it personally when someone else confirms this? It’s not you that’s ugly or wrong, it’s the drawing.
Think of it like a child that was raised by wolves, and it’s now your task to raise it into a respectable human being. If it sits on the floor and eats its food with its hands, it’s not your fault, that’s just how it was raised. It’s up to you to teach it how to sit at a table with a knife and fork, and that takes a lot of work, and nobody blames you if you fail. The only person who suffers is you, because you’ll always be stuck with this fucking retard who shits on the floor and wipes his ass on the curtains.
All we want to do is help you teach this fucker to use a toilet.

be able to filter real criticism from people just trying to put you down. listen to and value that real criticism, and don't let the people just trying to get you down prevent you from improving. it's hard as fuck though. i've been drawing and doing requests for 4chan for a few years, and in the past year or so, it seems like there's this one guy (and I can tell it's one guy because he says the same things) who always is the first to comment on my art anytime i post it. and even though i know it's one guy, who probably hates me personally rather than my art, it still affects me sometimes when i know i shouldn't let it. so it's easier said than done with filtering criticism, but you learn over time.

I have never 100% finished a work, and instead sketch perspective and figure drawings to gain skill.

Finishing a piece with color, rendering etc, when you're as yet unskilled, is like building a house on a faulty foundation. That's how benign mistakes become embarrassing.

>> No.3811481 [DELETED]

OP I'm 30 years old. Let me give you real advice on how to get better at drawing.

Alright so first off you have an attitude problem that is causing you to feel defeated and accomplish nothing. This one you're showing is common and I know how to address it. This is a matter of choice and focus. You must choose to switch your focus from feeling bad to instead focus on wanting to not take your mistakes personally for the sake of simply focusing on improvement. To treat yourself as a humble student who is learning. You MUST make mistakes to improve. Your art MUST be flawed for you to continue on your journey. This flaw is inevitable and should be welcomed as a natural part of your development as an artist INSTEAD of something to sap your motivation and spirit.

So again. Switch to a mentality of improvement. FOCUS on improvement. This is something you have to consciously tell yourself to do. Get into the habit of snapping yourself out of bad moods into remembering what i've told you so you can concentrate and improve. When you stop taking your failures personally and see them as opportunities to get better you will welcome and embrace them.

DO NOT grind out boring studies as a way to improve. Anything that saps motivation due to being boring hinders your progress and teaches you to feel apprehensive feelings every time you want to begin improving at your drawing. Which leads you into not wanting to draw. Make your exercises fun. Make your studies fun. Or at least have a fun drawing project on the side alongside your studies. This is not a matter of holding off to have fun "later" when you "get good". Develop fun and passion for it now instead. That will become very addicting and rewarding and drive you to improve much faster.
Now there is certain information you MUST know that will be a dry read. You need to figure out exercises that will give examples of this dry information in a fun context so you can learn it easier.

yeah but the stakes for doing a bad drawing aren’t as high as building a shitty house. you don’t lose anything by making art you enjoy except maybe time. I think you’re probably trolling but I’m going to assume you’re not and just let you know that you’ll never improve by not actually drawing.

>> No.3811794

>>3811489
But is FAR more important to improve on fundamentals like proportions, gesture and perspective than rendering.
If you are still unpleased with your overall draws spendin 8 hours scetching is a much more efficient way of improving than spending 8 hours doing a complete draw.
Just take a look at the people genarlly considered to be the best draftman and see the insane ammount of time they spend sketching

Not him but I was in an art discord with a guy from the /ic/ one. The admin was a ban happy faggot claiming he didn't want to make a safe space. Had a shitty ranking system and fake currency for gambling, and no nsfw art room. The guy ended up banning me because I posted some formatted text in a bot's DMs.
If you could give some suggestions to avoid dumpster fires like the Shamed server that'd be helpful.

It wasn't even an official branch off or anything, it was advertised by another guy on the /ic/ discord before it was nuked. It's a shame that the guy that linked it is a somewhat popular artist with some nice tutorial vids.(https://youtu.be/5w5xoLOSnyE)) The level of control over shitposting doesn't even remotely reflect their mascot artist and his vids.
