your reflected light is still too bright compared to the midtone

the core shadow is too soft and should wrap around the sphere at the edges of the diameter, not the center

the horizon line edge should be softened to create more atmospheric perspective

sharpen the origin of the cast shadow

the highlight position should not be right at the contour of the sphere

your application of graphite is good

you cant just draw and get better anon. Studying drawing can seem hard but it really isn't. Open an art book, put on some nice music and just relax. Something that has helped me enjoy myself a lot more is realizing that simple things like studying anatomy are quite easy and can be relaxing. They just take a bit of time. And being good at drawing feels great so take the time to learn if it something you want to do.

Really good stuff, anon. Btw, i've always wanted to ask a good artist why some - if not most - good artists sketch like that.
I'm talking about those shaky loose lines with very little detail defined. Why do you make bold marks in certain places and pretty much no marks at all in some others? Is it a matter of style or does it help you to think about the shapes or some shit like that?

Thanks for the compliment!
It helps to convey distance, light and darkness, and it is also a stylistic choice. It makes things pop. But yeah, if one part of a body is under more light it will not be as defined as one in shadow.
If i want attention on a certain detail, it will be bolder. If it is farther away, it will be simple, etc.

looks like you almost ran outta room there, his head is just a smidge from being cut off. Maybe its because you start a drawing by doing small details first before looking at the bigger picture? I mean, you focus on the little things which can lead to running out of room on the page, misaligned features and a ton of time spent. Try lightly drawing the major forms first and narrowing it down to secoundary and tertiary forms before focusing on the details.

I haven't drawn much of anything in like 2 years and it shows. I was recently given some sketching markers and I like em a lot, and so I got back into it. I feel like I've fallen back on symbol drawing, but every once in a while I have these brief periods of lucidity where I can feel my old skillset pushing it's way through my brain. If you want cleaner lines, you should use more of your arm when drawing the line depending on how long the line is and you should use an underdrawing with light lines first then ink over it, or use darker lines afterward.

i think he meant that your value range is out of whack, if you were going for a 1:1 reproduction of the image. the gun and most of the darker shadows on the hand are too light in your drawing, and you're ignoring most of the occlusion shadows cast by the gun and left hand.
it's not a bad drawing, but it's not accurate either.

>> No.3835693

>>3835665
So I should focus on making darker and more accurate shadows in the future so it doesn't look like I half-assed it, right? I'll admit I got a little lazy at the end when it was time to do the gun. I'll keep that in mind and try not to do everything in one sitting, maybe take a few breaks in between.
Thank you, cheers.

what do you use for the white lines on the eyebrows and eyelashes? do you actually erase the graphite or are you using a white colored pencil?

>> No.3835751

>>3835738
neither, I do it the hard way. a light sketch of the outline of the areas to be left white, draw around that, it gets a bit dirty but it makes it "feel" better.
the reason: using a white colored pencil will never give you the pure white youre going for, as this is direct reflected sunlight, so you want to aim for glare from the reflection. same thing for using an eraser.
a tip: if there are a multitude of ways to do something, the harder is in general better.
