Anon, of course nobody cares. You think people care about seeing your gesture drawings unless they are absolutely god tier?
You don't study to make that shit unless your true goal is mastery of figure drawing (in that case go for it), you study so that you can make good original content and post that content online.
Use your fucking imagination and don't fall for the endless grind meme

All three of you wondering how no one cares about your soulless drawings of buff overconstructed mannequin people in armor.

Its not about being male or female, it just so happens that some of those females have a very big crowd that appreciates pastel cell shaded anime fem-boys (which is just as generic as armor-dragon-fighting-scifi-lensflare-rimlighted-macho-dudes)

Just fucking draw and stop complaining.

People don't consume art for its beauty only. They like art because they can relate to it. It's about emotion. Technique is a tool. Studies make people feel nothing. That's why a mediocre artist can have dozens of thousands of followers. People can related to what his art is trying to convey. Pic related is soulless. It's very well made, but it's empty of meaning. It's just a dude with his sword up.

Still makes sense with his post though...

Ruan Jias paintings are for a niche industry of dudes who overzealously cares about painting and rendering and technicall prowess - while the other picture has much more appeal to a broader audience (not saying its good)

DESU both pictures are "pop" music to my eyes..

She clearly has a fetish for trannies, she had a porn account with tranny art and draws all trans women like the ma'am guy and all trans men with tiny waists and huge tits. Her/his art (this idiot says he's agender so you don't even know which pronoun to use) is so fucking ugly and offensive that it makes Tumblr transexuals uncomfortable.
Truly impressive if you ask me

Yeah I get what you mean. Pastel colored anime girls like that Russian guy or Loish. You can make a career out of that, and I have no idea how people don't ever get tired of it.
Thing is, do you really want to do this? For me it's about as appealing as drawing anal prolapse for the rest of my life. I will never do it because it makes no sense to pursue this career if you don't want to have a personal voice.

Yeah, you don't to need to do that. You do have to find an audience to make a living out of it, though. It can be an audience of 50k, for example, that loves horror, gore stuff or likes medieval fantasy or sea monsters or whatever. But you need to connect with an audience and you can only do that by giving them something of value. As an artist, you sell the audience feelings and they give you money. That's why studies pull no people. They're soulless. It's like expecting to have a fanbase as a musician if you only post yourself practicing notes on a guitar.
Shit, I'm kind of a jaded fuck but pic related still makes me feel something. Youth, nostalgia, that kind of shit. That's how you pull people in.

i think we all agree that theres a market for drawing these cutesy girls and what not, and that the people doing that work are fairly interchangeable - one period it has this artist and this name, another period its another artist another name but similar content - and there are a lot of people who like this artwork because it is kind of archtypical - but not very individualistic :-)

personally - i dont really get super mad about it, i just know that i would hate to draw stuff like that to make a living, and thats not why i draw things - i also know that there are people that appreciate self-expression in a deeper sense, and want to interact with interesting pictures/films/music.

That doesnt make it any less hard to 1. figure out what the fuck you actually like, and to articulate a vision - and 2. do it with enough bravado that people will actually care.

I got a question: I love comics, but my drawing skills are still shit. Should I stick to just storyboarding and trying to improve my drawing skills on the side or combine the two things. How do I improve the fastest and what am I going to to with the product?

You will become popular as the man who draws while skateboarding, do it!

It you want to make comics you have to practice a lot. There's a million different things you have to develop to make comics.

Well pic related is something i prefer, but it won't get 1k likes on tumblr, twitter etc. different with mainstream tumblr art.

>> No.3794112

>>3794083
no but thats the same for everyone - there is just a bigger market and appeal for cute anime girls than this - its the same with popmusic, although i think some pop music is actually pretty well crafted, even though it sounds very generic, which i think is the same with a lot of anime artists, that are actually good craftsmen but chose to draw something that has mass-appeal.

its just how it is, people who get more interested in art and drawing, or comics or whatever will start looking for variations and interesting art.

I dont know...

On one hand maybe the cute stuff appeals to people for the same reason that cute animals do, its archtypical and easy to swallow - and it doesnt rub you in any way, its simply "pure" and innocent (some of it..) so people feel they can like it, because theres nothing challenging or odd there.

maybe someone somewhere has a thesis on appeal and what aesthetics most people like/have in common - its a tough thing, whether people in the beginning inherently just like cute things, or whether they just get exposed to so much of it, that they learn to like it :-)

Also, western comics is pretty huge dude-

fucking jack kirby is a master - look how much money stan lee made off of that artistry - look at the marvel franchise, how super heroes are really super mainstream and likable in popculture.

The established IP, not any new comics or characters. Ask anyone watching the Avengers if they're heard of Jack Kirby and almost all of them will say no.

You sound like you're coming at it from a money standpoint which isn't the right way to look at any of this.

but whose fault is that? surely not women and anime, thats a matter of Stan Lee crediting everything with his name, so that when he died everyone went "oh shiit master of comics is dead"when really it was Ditko and Kirby who did the work.

Thats more at fault with industry notions of who makes the actual work.

Point is, the actual images and the universe itself is pretty popular.
