No joke, I've failed at getting fit many times. After 30 days of trying basic exercises, I cannot do 6 strict pushups.

Yep. A female artist I know is obsessed with him, says he's the sexiest man she'd ever seen, wants to find a modern version.

There's even a documentary shot in his later years. His voice sounded exactly like the Brain from Pinky & the Brain.

At what age did Frazetta make it? His earlier days it seems he was making some really good stuff by the time he was like in his early 20s.

I was watchin an interview before and he said he really didn't start painting until he was 30, he considered everything else 'doodling'.
Thought that was funny.

The most impressive thing he did was later on - he had a bad stroke, that left him partially paralyzed on the right side of his body, so he couldn't use his drawing/painting hand. So he taught himself to use his left hand.

Papa Frazetta: "I don't know, kid, I didn't use models."

http://fritzfrazetta.blogspot.com/2011/09/frazetta-creative-moment.html

Remember, Frazetta went into the 60's, when he was doing paintings like that, after years of working in cartooning. He was familiar enough with the human body to create a pose from imagination, and get it close to being credible from experience. His figures aren't anatomically correct, but he fakes it enough to make it credible.
In this Tarzan sketch, is every muscle and bump accurate? Fuck no. But it looks good. He'd drawn the human body so often at this point in his career, he could put a pose like that together from memory and creativity.
I also think he had references around - art books, especially of sculpture, to draw from. He struck me as the kind of guy who'd have Playboy around - especially since he'd worked for them and probably had a free subscription - and would be able to get inspiration that way.
But, he claimed to just go from a sketch on a couch to the easel. But he had the experience to do that. Put in a solid decade or so drawing figures day in and day out for comics books, you will too.
