Looking through the stuff in this thread with a critical eye, there's a lot of things about his work that tick me off - despite all the absurd perspective and form knowledge things still somehow look flattened out, and he basically uses the same texture to render everything, from stone to cloth to metal to skin. Try using an EXTREMELY FINE POINT marker and hold the pen so that it puts practically no pressure on the paper. Don’t draw lines that start at a point and end at a point rather skim across the surface. These are not stiff lines but somewhat like gestural lines. Also experiment with ball point pens with very little pressure

I think there is little point in practicing skill like cross hatching alone when you need more fundamental knowledge.
Essentially cross hatching is a "post processing" technique if that makes sense, basically if you understand the form and lightning intuitively enough you can use it. Of course the cross hatching itself is also a hard technique, but it can not work if you don't apply it perfectly, because in vacuum without understanding the form it can't look good.

Good crosshatching really isn't about the crosshatches themselves. It's much more about having a very strong understanding of the form. Once you have that knowledge, you can render however you want and it will probably look good.

Technique is like 2% of good art - the other 98% is fundamentals.

You know how much time? A SHITTON! People like Federicci, and KJG have been drawing for DECADES, slowly cultivating their professional skills over the years. That experience really adds up over time. And no, I don't mean they drew here and there while shitposting on the internet over decades. They put the hours in, day in, day out Until they were good enough to get hired. And then they drew some more. The more you draw, the better you get, and less impressive stuff like this seems, because you can see beneath the spectacle, and understand the craftsmanship and technique underneath it just by looking at it. That's what happens when you draw a lot. You wanna develop the skills these people have? Work as hard as they do, for as long as they have. It's the only way.

I've been drawing since 2014, but only 3.5 of those years were time I actually spent learning and drawing, and in all honesty, actual improvement came not from the two years after I bought a Cintiq and started drawing every day, and with JUST that time alone I managed to improve enough to get hired professionally. What I COULD do if I had "decades" to improve. If only. In other words, I highly doubt you've been drawing for as long as you say you have. Hell /ic/ hasn't even been around for more than just over a decade.

The teeth are too uniform, you should vary the shapes more and think about perspective.

The cross-hatching. Federici has a very deliberate cross-hatching. See how the starting and the ending points of the lines follow a curve, and also see how the hatching isn't parallel but has lines that converge to a point.
