Just post that shit anyway. If you get relegated to /beg/, go there and shit up that thread until someone tells you that you're too good for /beg/.
Then return to the draw threads. Get sent back to /beg/, rinse and repeat until no one tells you to go back to /beg/.

Its good that you're working with painting alongside other fundies if thats what you ultimately want to do. Post wherever you want, are they photostudies or from imagination? My only critique rn is to pay attention to where you're using a soft blending brush to create a blurred edge vs where you're using a harder one, its not consistent in the corners of the mouth or around the nostrils.

Not copy exercises, but what it is, the movement of the form thru space as it sits perfectly still.

The eye on the left is misaligned with the one on the right and both eyes might be a bit too high up on the head.
I'd add small indent on the skull next to the eye on the right because it's also making her face feel flat and egglike and her jaw/side of the face on the left might be extending too much and making the connection to the neck look off.
If you're not giving her that big neck scarf, put some collarbones there so it's not a flat empty surcafe, I do like me some collarbones
Leg on her right looks off / bends in a strange way but I don't know how to explain it really.
I checked Teste's official art and the tips of her shoes are more box-like/similat to loafer shoes so you might try to adjust those too.
I hope that helps, looking forward to progress update, anon.

Don't use these as reference. To anyone who's trying to "learn" human anatomy, attaching names you the muscles really helps you keep track of them. You'll also have to draw them repeatedly until you can construct [body part/section] from memory.

You'll need to be able to work somewhat fluently in perspective to get good use out of most tutorials or anatomy books.

You'll need to understand 1 point and 2 point perspective in order to use Loomis' books/methods. Moderndayjames has great vids on perspective.

I'm not much better than you... but... Your lines are really scratchy and aren't confident. Not only does it tend to look like shit but in my experience it also blocks one from getting in the zone and really feeling the drawing. You have to be ready to accept that the lines won't come out sometimes and fuck everything up.

Just think about it statistically, if a certain proportion of your lines are complete shit then if you chicken scratch the drawing instantly becomes mediocre because you have made sure with the law of large numbers that your page is filled with shit lines. The less lines you use the greater the chance that you accidentally make something good ;)

Orsimer girl from TES. I want it to be a square composition with a Echantere (basically a big centipede bull) mount to the right.
Any suggestions on the composition and placement of objects, water, foliage and other clutter? I am not good at it at all.
Also redline on the body is welcome, this pose was confusing so I had to ask my gf to pose for me to figure out some stuff, some of it I am still not sure about.

No, that's a type of a girl that I personally find attractive.
That is if she has dark hair and piercing blue eyes.
>>3766821
Obviously looks great, here is some stuff I noticed though.
Try to tweak the values of the sandy beach, it looks a bit flat especially in relation to the water.
Additionally obviously you can start adding more saturated colors now, unless this is the color palette you were pushing for.

Looks really nice, love the scale of everything. I feel like the large triangular shape in the middle should be darker, though. It feels out of place with all the surfaces facing the viewer being dark.

my advice to you is just draw. I'm making a guess here, but that guess is that you want to draw, but feel kind of embarrassed or overwhelmed by the idea of practicing, so you make font based illustrations. I might be wrong, but if I'm not wrong, please just do some studying. Drawing is really fun and it's not hard desu.

One small criticism though, it's hard to discern the size of the dragon and the girl, my assumption is that he's a baby dragon and she's a couple of feet away from him, in that case I think you should have her be a bit lower/smaller to emphasize the harsh angle.

Having the top of their heads follow the angle of the slopes in the background would help the overall composition too.

you should look into some composition stuff. all the lines of action point to looking at the tree on the right and out of the image. try designing the cape to point back to her feet or something and then back at her chest/face. look at some mucha, see how the hair and a lot of lines in the action always lead your eye back to the focal point? the focal point is unclear in your image, possible looks like the leaf stem the cape is pointing too. there's nothing that keeps the eye on the character. the bag is also right in the center and maybe seems like the focal point too but then the eye has nowhere to go.

That being said, eyes look a bit scary to me in both images, her iris/pupils kind of stare right through. That can be fixed with shading, though.

looks really generic both design wise and technically (rendering etc).
However in some sense it draws into all overused bad clichés of bad 'concept art', like the over glowiness of things.
Storywise it seems kinda bad, since it looks like you have a human just standing besides a giant scary alien.

The takeway should be to try to draw things that are more on your level instead of aping mediocre concept art.

>The takeway should be to try to draw things that are more on your level instead of aping mediocre concept art.
Maybe, I honestly feel like you're onto something there. Give me a face or a human body and I feel very comfortable with making it look good, but I haven't drawn a creature in soooo long. That doesn't mean I'll stay away from it, I'll just keep trying to improve.

really good traditional paint look to it. the red in the background is a bit distracting, maybe tone it down a bit by making it grayer or browner? Then the shields would have the most vibrant red in the piece. good composition. I like how they all seem to be reacting differently to whatever they're encountering. maybe give their faces a tad bit more detail so you can highlight that feature. good work.

>>3770209
this is pretty abstract so I gotta give feedback based on the vibes it gives me. The shape looks like a jester hat and I see a bunch of eyes in it. The look you're going for with the detailed patterned type thing is worth pursuing and developing more, you have the patience for it and the attention to detail for it, just maybe try to work with overall shapes (read: silhouette) that are reminiscent more of nature and not scary clowns. a flower, a leaf, a sun, a tree, a rock, a wave of water, a shell, a moon, a crab, whatever inspires you. Basically this rorschach painting of sorts you've created is not terribly appealing imo in its largest form but the way youre working with the lines within it is good and keep doing your thing in that regard. Maybe appeal isn't want you're going for, in which case, disregard my commentary.

>>3769644
jawline needs to relatively match the tilt of the rest of the face. The shoulders also need a bit of work. Her right shoulder would jut out a bit more in my estimation. Love your colors and how you've painted this, very nice imo.

If he is supposed be short, let it be so. If not, loomis it up and give him some more height. You need darker values on the face etc in detail, it's a bit hard to read. Good attention to detail on his muscles. very good work on the landscape there and your colors overall.

If you want to evoke a feel, you should plan an artwork accordingly. For starters, certain colors evoke certain feelings. Also make sure people could relate to something in your image. Right now you have too many things going on that don't fit together and are competing for attention, thus the viewer may not be sure what you're trying to say. You are the creator, so take advantage of that and channel people's emotions.

Thanks! Yeah, there is actually. And it's only growing. Visual novel backgrounds are looked for quite a lot. And the good thing with being an background artist for these is that you have, if you land a gig, at least 15-20 backgrounds secured that need to be done over the course of a few months since commissioners barely have two people for the same background position. Good money if you somewhat have a fitting style. In case you decide to do this I would advice starting with artworks in one-point-perspective, that's easier to accomplish for starters.

>>3771782
The client usually has some reference images for mood, general architecture or specific items but apart from that I only set up two grids and start sketching. The most jarring thing is the magical tablet on a tree I think. Overall the image has a good portion of round, flowing shapes but the squared surface and the drawn boxes really make it look off. Less alone in trying to draw well. Even magical tree fairies have to grind.

I don't like the wings in her hair at all. Maybe you could change it to a laurel wreath or some other hair accessory. I know you said you didnt want crit sorry. But already she looks like she isn't actually sitting on anything and then she has these weensy wings that couldn't hold anything up and aren't moving. The question of how she is staying where she is makes a distraction and gives an unease.

ty that's great feedback, I think its still salvageable since that edit isn't too big a deal considering my layers or lack thereof. It might not be perfect but it will make it much better imo. thanks again.

That's a good idea. Maybe have her have a magic brush thats she is drawing patterns on the tree with. You could have the tree covered until the point where she is currently at. She's just so bored that she's doodling on the tree reaching up into the clouds and it keeps going on. Maybe have some distant trees in the back that are already fully covered? That's what I would do from the top of my head right now.

studying and practicing is like the 'diet and exercise' equivalent of this art improvement game.
try this advice. take a blank piece of paper and redraw it again straight from reference. Try measuring by sight even if you're just eyeballing it-- for example how much smaller is the hand than the head, etc. pay close attention to the relationships in size and position between the objects in view. Hello all - Here is my progress so far. (about 5 months)

I'd like some criticism to help steer me in the right direction. Thanks

You're on the right track but lose the blurry shading, it just makes your drawing dirty and adds nothing to it. Everyone does it at the beginning because we think the smooth tones are closer to reality, but really it just looks bad. Also use less lines for the hair, it's another common mistake but by filling it with strokes you're just giving it the spaghetti look. I'm not sure why the ear is so deformed and if you're going with something specific for the character but it looks pretty out of place, it's like an old lady's ear on a girl.
Lastly but not leastly it's evident how less of a shit you gave about the belt that holds her hair and about the shirt. Quality consistency throughout the drawing is important.

practice rendering. it seems a little two tone. you should make a scale of 1-10.
also draw from reference and try comperative measuring.
as for the hair, dont try to draw each individual line. find larger shapes and values and draw that.

Having some trouble with the light and shadows in the head area, not sure if to put the entire head in shadow or to make the light come from a lower position so only half the head is in shadow

How do you keep ink on the nib

You have an unclear lightsource with random highlights everywhere.
But as it goes, I think it's fine for the style. It looks cute.

the torso is stupidly overrendered compared to the face and clothes. from the light, shouldn't the arm be casting a shadow on her body? overall you have random ambient occlusion too where it's fine in some parts but missing in others which looks bizarre like the skin under the right flap of her coat

not the same anon but I don't see the issue with eyes, if anything it's more about the lips being too large
