If you have any tips to share, or questions about Clip Studio Paint this is the place.

Starting off with this not-so-obvious tip:
Pick a color from the selected layer instead of the displayed color with "Pick up color from layer" from the Eyedropper subtool!
For easier access, consider assigning Shift + Alt or Ctrl + Alt modifiers to this tool!

Ok... after seven DAMN years, in which I've known this software better than my right hand. I consider CSP the epitome of underappreciated softwares because they are all adobe fags...
Now... my general advice are:
1)USE the DAMN trasparent color and not the eraser (except in the case of a vector layer in that case use the vector eraser). If you use the transparent color you just need to press the shortcut for the transparent color, erase the part using the same brush, color pick the color you need good to go.
2)Change your damn shortcuts settings. I have 35 shortcuts that I use on a regular basis, but I never move my hands... You know why? Because unlike PS pleb we CSP masterace can give to EVERY key EVERY function. I use to f8 to f12, plus 3-4 keys under those and I modify them with ctrl, alt, shift and all the inbetweens.
3)Don't put ALL the brushes in a single sub tool palette. Create sub tools palettes for every step of your creation I have sketching>inking>painting>options>fill. After this you just need to assign a shortcut to go between them. Put everything you need on those sub tools paletes and remove your toolbar
4)This is for the REAL pro in CSP use... The absence of EVERYTHING. There is the pop-up menu, if you press a shortcut the menu pops up if you press again it doesn't show anymore, easy no? Assign a shortcut for every menu you need. I assigned to... subtools paletes, layer, color wheel/square, color palete, layer options, brush options. All the rest is GONE from my canvas. I use the shortcut if I need that menu, I will let the layer menu to be seen ONLY if I do some heavy work in which I need to go back and forth between layers. After this press shif+tab.... Now you have EVERYTHING gone. Enter in peace zen-like state and draw.

That's it.... That's all the major advices I can give on CSP.

Nono I mean Sub tool palettes, the Sub tool palettes refere to the window that you can switch on and off in the window menu. Every tools that you put under a group is a sub tool group.
Practically speaking you just need to click and drag, the 99% of the time you just need to click and drag in CSP.
For an example... take the toolbar. Click to the eraser tool, click-drag the "soft" eraser tool to another place in the toolbar.... You will see there is a new subtool group called "soft eraser".

I missed moving the canvas with the arrows keys like in SAI, until I figured that if you hold the space key while using the arrow keys you can do the same in CSP.

another fun fact... you can bind every key to the hand tool, for an example I use the backspace.
Plus you can change temporarirly a tool just go to file>preferences>tools

Listen here you frog-troll ps pleb. Just go and see "reference layer" function in Clip Studio Paint and stfu. At leas CSP master race doesn't need to change every five seconds a layer to select the inside of a lineart.

It's more than a second of animation frames, being able to export a book of comic.pages, and then some edge detect filters. I think they might have added some other toning features but there's really not much. Look them up and determine if it's worth it for you.

That said next sale I might buy it just to see since I only paid $25 for it anyway.

how to save .jpgs with smaller filesizes by adjusting quality settings like in photoshop?
csp always dumps out huge jpg files so I have to save as png, open in another program then save as jpg there, very often producing a .jpg a 1/3rd the filesize of csp's .jpg

Eh, sounds tedious to me if you're drawing. I usually like to erase with a much larger brush size, so this feels a whole lot slower than just setting an eraser-type tool to a shortcut. Especially the fact that you need to color pick your original color again.

The rest are good tips though

>> No.3738993

>>3738937
you don't have to pick again, just hit c. for drawing maybe you want a big ersaer but a tip i picked up is just blurring it out if you're in a sketching phase because you're trying to make something fit that isn't a good idea, big hard eraser for inking or ctrl z, and transparency for painting.

i use image magick to lower quality for smaller size and also resize to smaller res. then exiftool to scrub exif info. this is a regular workflow for me though. photoshop stores a lot of ahit in exif tags anyway and i usually don't like how it resizes so i export at default size unless it's a gif or something.

Ok... now regarding the transparent color I will explain WHY is far more superior than the eraser, like I'm talking about my waifu.
First of all if you're painting and you want to erase something using the transparent color and not an eraser will let you erase the part you need with the same texture of your original brush, in this case your brushwork will remain consistent.
In the case you're doing your lineart... Dude... your g-pen IS AN HARD ERASER! Is the same brush tip as the hard eraser the whole difference is that the eraser tools are ALWAYS on the transparent color... Practically speaking EVERY eraser can be a brush and EVERY brush can be an eraser.
I recognize I explained the tip in a bad way... The one I said originaly
>USE the DAMN trasparent color and not the eraser (except in the case of a vector layer in that case use the vector eraser). If you use the transparent color you just need to press the shortcut for the transparent color, erase the part using the same brush, color pick the color you need good to go.

Is good only for the painting process because after you have put all the colors you need is better to do in this way, like this you will be much more consistent in your color gamma

For the rest... you can assign a shortcut to cicle between main color>transparent color (I don't use to much the sub color unless for gradient tools or a bicolored brush yes you can create a brush in which you can use the main color+sub color). Why is better than shortcut to an eraser?
You have two possibilities when you switch tools in CSP.
1)Press the eraser shortcut>press the brush shortcut. This is the PS pleb way you need to memorize two shortcuts and potentially moving your hand across the keyboard. Not good, you will use to much time.
2)Pressing the key assigned to the eraser>doing your job>releasing the key assigned to an eraser

>> No.3739469

>>3739467

Why the second method is "bad"
. Simply put you need to maintain the pression on the key... sorry but this is not comfy so I preffer to not do it. In an hour of drawing you will probably need to use the eraser... 6-8 time if you're good. 10-12 time if you are bad. If you press it for two-three second you will press a key for like 30-36 seconds... Sorry but my hand have better thing to do.

If you're using the transparent color you put your hands down in a comfy way you click your shortcut do what you need in a comfy way without putting pressure on your finger... reclick and continue to draw...

Transparent color-chan is a better waifu than Eraser-chan!

>> No.3739470

>>3739467
don't quote me, there's already a shortcut with c which is what i said. the problem with using the pen for the eraser is that you'd have to change sizes if you wanted a bigger one then switch back to a smaller one which is easier to just hold e then release when you're done with the eraser.

When making a selection and hitting the "Fill" shortcut, I noticed it causes the program the program to freeze up for an annoyingly long time when going through various colors and repeating it quickly in succession. Anyone else having this problem?
