To beginner artists (like me), how does your recent art compare to what you were drawing like a year or two ago?

Way better line control and if just feels more "natural" if that makes any sense. Also am building the attention span/motivation to do art more and longer. Still have a very long way to go though!

I started drawing 2 years ago doing tons of life drawing/masterstudies and learned the riley method. You got a good start but need to focus on your edges. Study how to create the entire spectrum of edges and when/why you should use each. Also think about your shadow shapes and beef up your core shadows.

what's really interesting is I learned just how different I do things now. Before I made the eye in 1 arch, and that's what made it so stylized, but now I try to make it like a 3D object.

the way I did hair back then was in individual V's, but now I tend to do it in clumps.

It's interesting because I actually have a lot of difficulty reproducing the old style unless i also adopt the old methods of drawing eye's and hair, which is fun.

>> No.3740360

I even tried referencing a regular drawing, but it failed terribly. I don't know if it was because it was facing an angle, or if my old style was just simple to copy in the way i was copying it.

>> No.3740361

would definitely recommend trying to draw in the style of your old works.

Best thing about it are the students you meet there (I think this is true of most brick and mortar schools). The instructors are good and I'd deff. reccomend it for grinding your fundamentals. I stopped going a few months ago cuz I was just turning into a sum of the teachers and needed to find myself artistcally, as well as put more skill points into digital/commissions. I will be attending on/off throughout the years to tune up my fundies as long as I live near it.
