When you say, "oh you know, it's drawing I gotta do for my painting and I hate that phase" some of it might just simply be your attitude. It could really come down to the fact that your attitude's just not very good. So put it in check and don't come in with this pissy attitude about the drawing. Try to really enjoy it and say, "yeah, this is the fun part." A lot of life is about your perception of what "lame" is and "having fun" is and "good", it's a perception. You can change your perceptions in a matter of seconds. "It's boring," well why? Is it boring because you just think it's boring, what is boring? Is boring being unengaged or not being fully engaged in the process? That's what I think it is. Get engaged in it, how could it be boring if you're engaged? I did something similar with mine but with 9 small clay sculptures of memories we had together and I got it done just before his last Christmas, which was a week before my birthday. He passed the day after I turned 20, but I'll always remember him, and I plan on using the sculptures to communicate those memories to my children someday.
