Well, if you look at the OP, it's basically only 3 shades of black and 3 shades of white on clothing. So you could make it real easy on yourself. In real life materials reflect light so it's vastly more complicated.

There is at least 4 distinct shades of black and LOTS of areas with subtle gradient.
Without actually understanding the fundamentals of shading you cannot reliably reproduce that kind of stuff.
