In this thread we ask /ic/ their opinions on a particular artist. Perhaps you found an anime artist and you can’t tell if they’re good or if they’re just polishing turds. Maybe you want clarification on something an artist said in a tutorial. Let’s try to steer clear from the prominent /ic/ artists that everyone shits on a bit too much.

I’ll start with ZHC. Specifically, this video:
https://youtu.be/wBk4efNH7l8
Do you guys think this guy has enough skill to back his ego? And what do you think of what he says in the video itself?

>Do you guys think this guy has enough skill to back his ego?
Yeah. Dude sounds like a prick but his art looks good for what he's going for (capeshit). I'm skeptical in the jump from 2015-2016 though. It's huge.

>And what do you think of what he says in the video itself?
He says he drew 5+12 hours a day for 3 years. Unrealistic for most people, but I think if you have a severe case of autism it might be do-able. I dunno.

For mine:

What do you think of him? Should I look to him for reference? Everything there is definitely the type of art I'd like to draw. Even if you take away the color, everything is just nice to look at.

i really wish people would push the environments more as well as having those anime girls.

Yeah, that's fair. It doesn't bother me too much, as I'm there for his characters mostly, but environments with as much character as a figure can really make something good into something great.

Anatomy is entirely off. Pectorals are too small. Pose is unnatural - like Cap is twisting his body for no reason. Both knees are off centered. Leg muscles are all screwed up except for the vastus lateralis and vastus medialis. Wrist bone shouldn't be protruding like that. Right index finger has two knuckles fused together. Lower arm muscles are wrong.

ZHC has a solid drawing process and good art but he's a one-trick pony. I don't think I've ever seen him draw anything that isn't a giant, muscled male figure half covered in shadow rendering. He's mostly a David Finch clone but even more limited.

Personally, I find the guy really fucking annoying and fake. Plus all he comes off more as a typical clickbait youtuber rather than an artist.

He draws well but I've never seen him convey action or motion well, which SHOULD be valued in action comic books. Everything looks stiff and made of stone. Then again, considering the state of capeshit comics right now, he's probably better than most of the shitty uncanny, traced shit that comes out now.

He's probably drawn it with a "normies won't be able to tell the difference so whatever" mindset. There are millions of professional superhero references out there, so if you're at least somewhat experienced in american comic style you can pull something like this off, or better.

Can't stand his voice, personality or fake feeling videos, which is a shame since he puts out a bunch of content and I like finding new artists to follow.
I feel like YouTube attracts a certain attention hungry kind of person, artists on picarto or even twitch seem more relaxed and friendly with viewers but also more serious with their work. It's like they're letting you watch what they'd be doing anyway, whereas YouTube artists you can feel them thinking about views and subscribers and shit every second.
Even ones who start out ok inevitably end up doing drama videos, clickable for the most basic normie, or when one of their vids does well they just make that same type over and over to try chase the success.

It's disappointing it's so clearly just using art for views but like I said, YouTube attracts a certain kind of person.

Just a quick sketch, but this is what studios are looking forward to these days. Everything has to be readable and clear, not over rendered stuff like in OP Cap drawing. That guy will never get hired in his current state because an editor know what works and what doesn't simply because of years of experience. They want to see the form as clear as they can - not see it in dark shadows. Plus, drawing eyes balls helps tremendously in expressing emotions.

Actually, if it looks That good he still gets hired like pic related. Some of his details would go to waste but he's still a decent weapon to have in your team.
All of this ignoring that colors are optional, there are black and white comics. Look for black and white Batman on Google, it's literally named like that. Of course, maybe he lacks the dynamism to do good panels, but he can train that skill as needed, his drawings are on point.

Only one person can draw like Jim Lee and that's Jim Lee. Copycat artist don't last very long in the industry, if they even break in at all. If you want to break into the industry at either Marvel or DC, your stuff has to be exceptional. Joe Mad is a perfect example. If I complete those books will I reach this level? Also does it help for drawing manga style or am I going the wrong route?
