Also concept art.. like wtf, he puts big eyes on photos and a couple pin ups here and there, but he doesn't "create" any ideas or concepts that would be considered an aspect of world building.

Again goes to show how these companies value popularity and big follower numbers, instead of quality and genuine passion.


Fun fact: All the great minds behind the original anime shows that netflix is either rebooting or making sequels of, are listed in the production cast (to please fans)- but are just acting as "overseers". Basically having no creative influence or say in that project, which btw is almost fully directed by a western cali team and studio, from visual narrative, script, music, etc.

I remember that pixiv stream that featured "popular" artists drawing live that featured him. The setup was that 2 artists would start and finish a piece at the same time in an hour.
The Jap was awesome all around, he drew a full figure with cool composition, showed off a bunch of cool tricks like using his photo of a starry sky for girl's dress pattern.

I don't understand this. He HAD years. He had more time than most people on this board. All he had to do was to grind Loomis, anatomy and all that stuff for a year, and that's it. No, the problem is that he didn't construct the drawing or has no idea of construction and just threw together a bunch of symbols. The philtrum shape is in a entirely different angle than in the photo. This kind of wonky shit happens when you have no idea how to construct things in perspective. That's also why the shape of her jaw and chin don't match up with everything above the nose. You can also see the philtrum in this true profile photo. It's the angle of the philtrum that's different, not the existence of the philtrum itself.
Again this kind of stuff simply doesn't happen if you properly construct your drawings or at least got enough knowledge to eyeball it roughly.
But we've all seen videos of him drawing where he slaps together a bunch of lines and in the end every part of the face and body has different vanishing points because this nigga never heard of perspective.

Of course, I've watched Manben and other stuff and the artist pretty much draws only the main characters. All the backgrounds are traced or xeroxed photos glues onto the page. Many artists nowadays use 3D models for environments and trace those onto the page. Many artists who have gone digital trace 3D models for the characters too. I got nothing against that because manga takes so much work and has such terrible deadlines.

I don't know about older manga like GITS or Appleseed, I have no idea how they made that shit without 3D software.
