Agreed - nothing that he says is flat out wrong. It is a misrepresentation and very lazy cherry picking. It does not even begin to describe /ic/ or to a large degree 4chan.

1. Yes there is shitposting and bants all around. Some is in good spirit, some is downright mean. No one really means anything they say anyway. The new generation of lurkers are having trouble developing what we called "thick skin" once (it's not even that bad as it was in the earlier days).

2. /ic/ has a lot to offer. The Artbook Thread, the /Beg/ thread, the Sketchbook thread, the Alt, Anime, whatever thread. Some sites have some of the above, no site has them all. The artbook thread dominates every other site out there with exception to Persia/Peers/your private torrenting thingamabob. The community hunts material down to such a large degree that an overall "negative" opinion of /ic/ is farcical.

3. There is some misinformation on the board but also a lot of good, quality information. There is a decent selection of people working in different industries and attending different schools and they all offer input and crit.

4. While there is nothing particularly to be "proud of", you can learn a lot from /ic/ if you incorporate it as a part of your larger artistic growth. Don't make it a primary source, it's not the end-all-be-all, but lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater - there is a lot of good stuff here. Avoid the feeling of superiority by practicing regularly and always striving to learn from those whose work you appreciate, no matter their skill level.

I watched the whole video. I like the delivery and his commentary in general, but he misrepresented /ic/ all the same.

If there is a thread about a popular online artist, you usually get an even split of people liking and not liking that artist's work, and then random commentary around the artist that has no relevance to their work whatsoever.

There are benefits in taking this a dive in this river of manure. For one fighting trolls and crabs helps to keep your ego in check and builds up your immunity, if you don't overdo it.
There is also a chance that you'll end up holding a piece of gold after such a dive, you never know. It's not straight forward though, because content is largely unfiltered. This isn't a school, this is a old disheveled playground in the park, after dark and lessons you learn here you learn by yourself.

Honestly, I was subscribed to his content, which is how I originally saw this video, but I ended up unsubscribing strictly because of it.

I was able to look past a lot of the flaws in his art to see his content for what it was: opinion pieces and story time videos from an artist slowly trying to improve and make it.

This video basically made me feel like he lacks any sort of way of understanding people even a little bit different than him, and he just wanted to lump everyone on 4chan in with /pol/. It also felt like he was trying to contrive content by going back into the archive and poking fun at something that someone said over 3 years ago.

Like, it just feels like he's trying to pivot from his Holly Brown video, and quite frankly, I hate bashing on both him and Holly Brown so much. Like, people should be allowed to learn from their mistakes and shortcomings. I don't know, I just feel he sees our wide variety of personalities and influences, lumps us all into "a hacker named 4chan" and calls it a fucking day.

So, this is just to everyone from the video who has come here as a curiosity:

That video is a complete misrepresentation of our community. Not only is it 3 years old and looks at a single thread, but it lacks any nuance in how it views groups of people and instead lumps everyone into a single camp. Also, for someone who is making a business out of layering his internet persona in sarcasm, he fails to perceive it in text when reading what is very clearly and obviously a joke thread, although I get that he wouldn't see that if he hadn't been here a while.

In fact, I'd say it's a video caked in irony. You can only be so sincere about making fun of a community and making false generalizations about groups.

Yeah, there's people here that say the n word and people here are toxic, but anonymity can afford you deeply valuable criticism just as much as it can provide a straight up dumpster fire. It's a blessing and a curse. Seriously.
