I like how everyone's uploading raws on NG. It makes them hard to view at an ideal size (Tom's gotta work on that) but as an artist-in-training it's great to be able to get up close and personal with what the artist of a piece had done to get their result.

In this past week I got about 200 new followers on twitter. Most of those accounts were either created this month, or long dormant accounts that are just now being used. As far as social media sites, I would say Twitter is getting the most tumblr refugees.

There was a similar spike, though not as large, of baraag users following my pawoo account which I don't use often. My personal biggest complain about Mastodon is that browsing user sites and the dashboard are extremely different experiences, with retoots/faving being particularly tedious while browsing. That's going to prevent it from being the number one choice for most tumblr migrants.

I have a love-hate relationship with how tumblr promotes posts. While it's a great way to find good content, it also reeks of nepotism. They're artificially picking winners and losers on the platform.

Twitter doesn't promote posts, it promotes popular hashtags (useless for finding artists but easy for artists to hop onto trends) and show you accounts you might like based on the people you follow. If you are into fan art, it's much easier to find "your people" on twitter, and for them to find you too organically.
