It's actually crazy but I went from never drawing to drawing everyday since the day I started which was a year ago. Even if I didn't want to draw, which was often, but a lot of the time I forced myself to draw for a few hours on a schedule. Worked for a few months before I just didn't want to.
I supplemented that by drawing literally a few lines that resemble something. Even if it's nearly nothing. Whenever I do it I do so to try to trick myself by focusing on the fact that I'm drawing. Basically tricking my brain into keeping the habit by at least doing something.

Might be placebo but for you guys struggling you should try it out. Seriously. This method resulted in me doodling one thing forcefully. Then it turned into me drawing for an hour or two.
Another recommendation would be to join drawpiles with randoms or friends when you're not feeling it. That shit's motivating.

By doing this I've only missed one day of drawing stuff and that was because I was busy and forgot.
Maybe it's placebo but it's worth experimenting and trying out. For people who have problems being consistent try it out and report back to the board with a thread in a few months or so.

I didn't say I was good, nigga. I was just giving my experience with my method of going from disliking the idea of drawing at all to drawing everyday purposefully.
I can post some work but people might recognize me. Though it's not like I'm claiming to be good. Just passing on my way of approaching my beginning of drawing with consistency.

Be nice.

Good strategy, OP! You have motivation which is the only thing you need. But you need to start some fundies and use references. Check out drawabox. It's exercises are very simple and well paced. If you can doodle you can do drawabox. And copy things you see amd other artists. We learn by copying. And never be afraid to erase and references.

I don't want to make art a hobby, but I might take something else like learning an instrument and make that into a hobby with no expectations and just for fun, it sounds nice to have time off like that

I did that for a few years, but began to burn out on the third. I've learned that quality is far more important than quantity of practice, as well as the importance of doing things just because you like them.

And don't be such an attention whore, OP.

It's pain for the first couple months and maybe 2 years depending on how much time you put in and what your goals are, but being able to bang out a couple pieces on guitar feels pretty good. Just set realistic short and long term goals that will satisfy you. What's not fun is trying too hard and setting yourself up for failure in your own personal hell.

I feel better now that I put off getting gud and just focus on drawing cute boys doing cute things.

On some days it feels to me like trying to draw anything is a waste of time. If I lose an hour without sketching anything presentable I just give it up and do something else. To draw a nice personal piece a need some really inspiring prompt/concept, a few studies from photos and a good-looking color set. If I just sit down and try to conceive something on the spot it never works out for me.

That said I really admire those who can render something beautiful on a daily basis

I do my exercises most everyday. just lines and circles and shit.
I think I got it down to under 30 minutes.
theres been an improvement.
it would be nice if I could fit a doodle in also, a person or something. but I just don't feel ive got the energy or motivation to do that too atm.

I hope it will get easier. I experiment with materials in the afternoon because that feels like something completely different than drawing,
