What is /ALT/?

Not sure if are asking for tips on the character design or in what to study so I will just say both.

The design:

One thing that stand out the most to me is that everything look like it is made from, almost, the same material. Adding some texture would help, nothing fancy, just a indicating it with the contour, or with the shadows would do the job.

Also the shapes, you have some interesting shapes going on in the chest but it is lacking on the rest of the armor, look some real life armor, they almost always has some interesting shapes.

Some line variation would help too.

The rest depend on what the class is about the game mechanics and the other classes, basically what you are trying to communicate with the design.

What to study:

Kienan Lafferty and Sycra(I think) as some videos about character design that I would recommend.

There is this book "100 Ways to Create Fantsy Figures", it is shallow but it goes over a lot of topics, so it is basic a list of what to search on google.

What's fucking you up is the foreshortening on the arms. Reference is useful there, try using a program like designdoll to make one if you can't find it.
I'm kind of not sure about the hip. It depends on how strong the perspective is and how exactly you want it to look. If she's sticking her ass out at all, I would move it out to the left and exaggerate the curve of her back a little more.

And my final thoughts. Might be better to move the window off-screen (behind the soldier on the left?) and instead indicate it by lighting coming in through it.

Another thing: these piles of dirt in the staircase - where do they come from? Did the ceiling somehow collapse? then why is the rest of the staircase so clean? If you want to indicate dirtyness and random clutter, think about storytelling - why would it be this dirty? You could smash in the case of the fire-extinguisher and have shards of glass on the floor instead, and some fire damage on the walls. Bulletholes from previous fights, dirty footprints, etc. If the ceiling is really damaged (and the window is open) then you'll have water damage on the wallpapers, etc.
I think you get the idea.

It's quite a bit I redlined, but I think as long as long as the perspective is fixed, the concept of this piece can work, without the need to redraw the characters.

I followed the suggestions and fixed the scale on the stairs and the upper character.

I don't feel that there is a skull under that skin. The eyes feel out of balance, and they seem like symbols. The right arm (our left) is floating backwards and detaching. The leg on the same side is doing something similar. That pelvis seems to be in two places at once. So you tried, and what I would do if I was you is get a 3d model, make it do that post and notice the difference between the two.

Yeah np man, I use it too. Don't neglect gesture and fundies, but don't be afraid to use a 3d model to help coax your mind into seeing 3d space. I think your problem might be that as you were going your mind started to try and short hand the process by flattenting the image into 2d because there are some parts that are correct.

Also pay attention to the length of the spine. It felt like the triangulation between the face, and shoulders was too close and could use a reconsideration.

yeah spine length has always been a struggle for me same goes for neck length sometimes. i think it's because i start with the head, then the neck, then the ribcage, and then i put in the pelvis by sort of estimating or sometimes i put in the waist by estimating it and add the pelvis at the end. is there any way to always get the correct length of the of the spine length?

the longer i look at it the more fucked up it looks though

-stylizing things you don't understand well only emphasizes the flaws
-a common mistake in anime style is when artists picture the head angled upward and draw a hard line for the jaw. just omit it. it doesn't look good, esp on lolis
-the head is WAY too big, even for anime proportions
-do some face and hair studies. the depth on her eyes is wildly unsettling

all in all, if you don't become complacent and strive to improve, you could probably draw something appealing. you're just hovering just outside "moe uguu" territory. the short stretch you have left before you make it there is by far the hardest to complete.
