More broken french edition

I'm too busy to officially do Inktober but I only draw in pen anyway, so it probably counts. Post things from your sketchbook, mind your image sizes, etc. etc.

I spent a solid year or two sucking Guillaume Singelin and Moebius's dicks back to back, as well as a few other french cartoonists that I had hard-ons for at the time. A couple posters on here influenced me too, mainly that dude who makes all the surreal creatures in black and red pen and that Mabel chick who posted once or twice last year.

Bumping with an older page, I don't want this to die before the regular sketchbookfags get posting

My art is ass but I'll come up with something I like every once in a while. I've made a habit of actually taking my sketchbook with me whenever convenient and it increased my productivity by about a 100%, though drawing crappy stuff in public stills feels weird and I hold the sketchbook awkwardly so people can't see the pages.

Weird question, but would you be interested in collaborating for a webcomic? I'm working on a comic project involving lots of guns and lots of girls (sfw), so this seems like a surprise fit haha. I have a script for the first chapter, and rough drafts you could look over to get an impression. I've collaborated with artists for webcomic projects before and had some positive experiences.

I have multiple projects but the closest to publishing is an adventure / Fantasy comic with a floating island setting. My artist and I are going to apply to hiveworks in early 2019.
One other comic has been put on indefinite hiatus because the artist got a full time job and I don't want to release an unfinished product, yet switching artists mid-chapter would be too jarring.
I'm also doing a oneshot of my own but my art is still very poor >>3631948 so I had to come up with a story that requires neither anatomy (no human / animal characters) nor perspective to pull off which was a challenge and took a lot of trial and error. The result is of course still very flawed, but I'm happy with it, considering my limitations. Pic related is the draft, the comic is set to be released in December.

Dumb question but any real tips/tutorials/ books to help actually STARTING a sketchbook? While I do plenty of studies at home (concentrating on figure drawing/creating characters from imagination) I just have a hard time wanting to just sketch and doodle, possibly out of fear that I could end up wasting time on drawing the wrong things. I just want to always aiming to get better whenever I draw. Gotta get good asap.

>> No.3637320

>>3637303
most important tip for sketching? probably dont overthink, but don't NOT think. Overthink = not a sketchbook anymore. Not thinking = you end up drawing weird doodles that just end up going nowhere. Sometimes you see people with finished inked pieces in their sketchbook as if they're sending it off to calarts. And sometimes you see sketchbooks that look like they belong to graphomaniacs. My favorite sketchbooks are almost always from people that are always still designing, but keep it really basic and loose.

Don't forget, it's a sketch. It's not a drawing, it's not art. It's more frank than that.

>finished inked pieces

Where else would one practice inking? If I am going to finish something do I have to say 'I am going to do an Art', remove the page from my sketchbook and put it on a drawing board, then put it in a plastic sleeve when I'm finished?

If someone is not paying you to make something or you are not hoping to sell it how do you decide whether it goes in a sketchbook or not? I do always wonder this when I see people complaining about finished pieces in a sketchbook. And I'm talking about sketchbooks with a mix of stuff here not those youtube 'sketchbooks' that are all pieces and no studies.

How do you guys decide what will go in a sketchbook or on a separate paper?

Well that's how I always thought of it but then I see people on here arguing over what constitutes and what ought not be in a sketchbook so it made me wonder that I was doing it wrong. Some anons act like you have to stop working on something before you hit a certain point

generally sketchbooks are never meant for finished anything. is there anyone actually looking for sketchbook pages to buy off you? i mean that wouldnt be bad, because you can have all your pieces on one little book to flip through for art buyers, but this isnt the 70s anymore. you dont have to grind like that, its why generally everyone works digitally so people can click through their portfolio. these days, sketchbooks are for designing. purely designing.

Diminishing returns. You can do whatever you want, but illustrators and painters often have an end goal not found in a sketchbook. You can study and experiment with figures, techniques, rendering, designs and compositions but it doesn't translate to the intended medium in and of itself.

Its all just opinions, though.

invest in a pen or quill that you can refill and dont buy cheap ink.

experiment with brushes, technical pens, quills, markers and figure out what you like

learn how to use line weight and make sure all of your lines are deliberate, be patient because inking is way slower than drawing unless you do both at the same time. sculpt your lines

what dont you like about my content

Do you guys doodle around on 1 page, erasing and redrawing until you've settled on the final position of the drawing?

Then you go about rendering etc?

I ask because i have several pages in sketchbook filled with learning etc doodles and when doing final lines and inking i use a lightbox to transfer to new paper.

Personal preference:
I use strathmore mix media or sketch. Sketch can still handle light washes too.
I also use small sketch books that are easy to carry. When I worked as a cashier I used a very small pocket sketch book so I could take it with me and draw during our slow times.

Try and find some faces with the general shape you want so you know what you should be aiming for, draw variations until you hit on one you like the most and try to replicate it several times until you're sure you have it down. Then throw it down as many times as you can fit on a page and use it to practice the facial features again until you strike on the ones you like. Once you have that face down, practice it again features and all. Once you've done that move on to hair, repeat the process again until you've settled on the "right" head.

And krita doesn’t have the full alchemy tools just two random shapes brushes and the selection fill tool type thing.

And I get that, again I like kirta for drawing in verse clip studio. Feels more loose, but I do more sketching on paper.

I should have stretched his clothes and maybe added a little smearing.

this one's really a toss-up, since the camera tracks him throughout the scene. - if the camera is moving at the same speed as other objects, they won't blur as long as the focus remains consistent.

It's why the other cars driving with us on the highway aren't blurry unless they're moving in the opposite direction
