That's not it at all though. OP image is the iconic Rockstar aesthetic, effective composition with very clean and smart shape design. It has a lot of character. There's no real "detail" at all especially in comparison to the sterile examples for RDR2. The newer illustrations look like an attempt to emulate the simplified Rockstar aesthetic without being informed enough to understand what's actually appealing about it. It's also a really shitty choice to slap the simplified characters against a much more detailed backdrop in my opinion, especially in >>3653118 where it almost looks like they just stapled two completely different environments together down the middle. The lower right just looks so much more fucking saturated than the rest of the picture I can't understand why anyone working on this would think "Yep, this looks good" unless they wanted it to distract you from looking at the rest of the piece.

Concept art is not what it used to be. Nowadays people use real photographs and 3d modeling for figuring out concepts. It's more cost effective and less time consuming, which is important for game development. Illustrations are just afterthoughts.

Traditional art is not inherently conservative, putting pen to paper has nothing to do with ideologies, and just because Disney's slaveworkers were racist motherfuckers doesn't mean the style has it ingrained within.
